CARRÉ, MICHEL (b. Paris, France, 1819; d Argenteiul, 27 June 1872.)
Carré was a French librettist who wrote for most of the leading French composers of his time. Occasionally he used the pseudonym Jules Dubois, and frequently he collaborated with fellowlibrettist, Jules Barbier.
His is particularly remembered for his work on Gounod's Faust, Bizet's Pecheur de Perles (Pearl Fishers) and Offenbach's Contes d'Hoffmann (Tales of Hoffmann).
