Also used as the name for a short, complete aria or song with repetitious, simple rhythmic patterns. In both cases, the cabaletta is often in triple time, like the galloping of a horse (the derivation of the word may relate to the Italian ΓÇ£cavalloΓÇ¥, a horse). Two of the most famous cabalettas are by Verdi, Sempre libera in La Traviata, and Di quella pira in Il Trovatore.
