Mendelssohn is probably best know for his moving violin concerto and his oratorio "Elijah" but he was a prolific composer and composed a whole host of chamber works and symphonies. This track is the first movement from his Symphony for Strings No.2 and is an excerpt from the Analekta fleurs de lys CD (FL23033) which brings together a selection of his finest string symphonies.
