  37. WebRifle« 2.x is a real-time web surfing accelerator specifically designed for 
  38. Internet Explorer« to achieve a faster and more effective approach to the 
  39. internet.
  40. It enhances your web navigation by predicting your need for web pages with a 
  41. sophisticated algorithm to anticipate hyperlinks and to retrieve web pages 
  42. before the browser needs to display them. And if you drag&drop some links into 
  43. WebRifle« control window it will download your links in the background while 
  44. you're surfing.
  45. Moreover a built-in TCP-IP transport protocol optimizer increases your modem or 
  46. network bandwidth by efficiently taking full advantage of each unused instant of 
  47. your internet connection.
  48. WebRifle« works automatically "behind the scene" without user interaction. It's 
  49. fully integrated with Internet Explorer« and don't require any user settings. 
  50. And if a Web page has changed since the last time you visited it, WebRifle«, 
  51. using its auto-refresh background function, will refresh it automatically.

  83. How it Works

  87. Installation Requirement
  88. WebRifle« is based on VB5 Run-Time Service Pack 3. Therefore, if you don't have 
  89. the VB5 Run-Time, the WebRifle« setup program will inform you. Only in this case 
  90. download the VB5 Run-Time and install it before WebRifle« (usually the Run-Time 
  91. is not necessary for Windows« 2000/XP or above).
  92. WebRifle« needs Internet Explorer« 4/5/6 with Active Desktop component installed, 
  93. Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP, 10 MByte HD free space and WinZip 6.3 or above.

  95. Running Setup
  96. Extract the WebRifle« zipfile in a temporary directory and read the ReadMe.htm 
  97. file first. If you have a previous version of WebRifle« already installed in 
  98. your system you must uninstall it before install WebRifle« 2.x. 
  99. Then double-click on the WBSetup.exe file which will begin the installation. All 
  100. files in the temporary directory may be deleted once the installation is 
  101. complete.

  103. Startup Folder
  104. WebRifle« setup will add a link to TE.exe into your startup folder. WebRifle« 
  105. will start on system startup and will stay resident without user interaction. 
  106. During the waiting status the resource usage of WebRifle« is minimal.
  107. Installation Files
  108.  
  109. The WebRifle« setup program will install and/or replace these files in your 
  110. system : 
  111.     WebRifle« Files (WebRifle directory) : TE.exe, ReadMe.htm. 
  112.     WebRifle« Files (windows system directory) : TELib.dll, ComCtl32.ocx. 
  113.  
  114. If installed the VB5 Run-Time setup program will install and/or replace these files in your 
  115. system : 
  116.     Visual Basic 5 Run-Time Files (windows system directory) : Asycfilt.dll, 
  117.     Comcat.dll, Ctl3d32.dll, Msvbvm50.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Olepro32.dll, 
  118.     Stdole2.tlb.

  120. Cautions
  121. Like any other setup programs WebRifle« involves making changes to your 
  122. registry. Whenever registry changes are made, it is always advisable to backup 
  123. your registry first.

  125. Uninstallation
  126. Like any other Windows program you can uninstall WebRifle« from the Add/Remove 
  127. Programs icon in the Control Panel. Don't try to delete the Visual Basic Runtime 
  128. files manually.

  130. Configuration
  131. Auto-Settings
  132. As it's strongly integrated with Internet Explorer«, most of WebRifle« settings 
  133. are automatic. The WebRifle« project aims at being easy-to-use. Thus, despite 
  134. the complexity of WebRifle«, only few manual settings are provided. My 
  135. suggestion is to use the default settings and tune only "Concurrent Links" based 
  136. on the throughput of your internet connection. If you give a look to the How It 
  137. Works section you will be able to understand the meaning of following manual 
  138. settings.

  140. Manual-Settings
  141. From the Standard Settings folder you can change these settings: 
  142.     Concurrent Links : Is the number of concurrent page download. Set this value 
  143.     on the throughput of your internet connection. A value of 5-10 concurrent 
  144.     download is for standard modem connection, increase it with faster 
  145.     connection (ISDN etc..). 
  146.     Max Length Files : Is the maximum length files allowed to download it. 
  147.     Decrease it if you prefer not to download large files or, vice versa, 
  148.     increase it if you have fast internet connection. 
  149.     Start On Page Completed : It sets the start for the download. If this flag 
  150.     is checked (default) WebRifle« will start following the link on the page 
  151.     after the page will be complete. 
  152.     Follow Remote Links : It sets the path for the download. If this flag is 
  153.     checked (default) WebRifle« will follow the remote link (to a page which is 
  154.     on a different server from that of the starting page..). If this flag is 
  155.     unchecked WebRifle« will follow only local links (to a page which is on the 
  156.     same server of the starting page). 
  157.     First Follow Local Links : It sets the sequence for the download. If this 
  158.     flag is checked (default) WebRifle« will follow the local link (to a page 
  159.     which is on a different server from that of the starting page..) and after 
  160.     will follow the remote link. If this flag is not checked, the sequence will 
  161.     depend on the page structure. 
  162.     Save Files Into Cache : It sets the storing mode of downloaded link. If this 
  163.     flag is checked (default) WebRifle« won't delete links not yet visited by 
  164.     the WebRifle« cache at the shutdown. This mode of operation doesn't waste 
  165.     your hard disk space because WebRifle« uses the same cache mechanisms of 
  166.     Internet Explorer«, therefore you can delete the WebRifle« cache from the 
  167.     Internet Explorer« cache menu, whenever you want. 
  168. From the Advanced Settings folder you can change these settings: 
  169.     Load When Filter Is OFF: In this frame you can set which types of files 
  170.     WebRifle« will download when the filter function is disabled ( normal 
  171.     condition.. ). Of course at least one type must be selected; for default, 
  172.     when filter is off all file types are downloaded. 
  173.     Load When Filter Is ON: In this frame you can to set which type of files 
  174.     WebRifle« will download when the filter function is enabled. For default 
  175.     when filter is on only text files are downloaded. 
  176.     Cache Acceleration/Page Refresh: It sets the WinInet« cache mode and, 
  177.     consequently, the Internet Explorer« and WebRifle« cache mode. This setting 
  178.     is equivalent to the Internet Explorer« cache settings available from the 
  179.     Options function of Internet Explorer« and have the same meaning; if you 
  180.     want faster navigation select "Max/If Needed" otherwise if you need frequent 
  181.     page refresh (every Internet Explorer« session..) select "Medium/Every 
  182.     Session". If you select "Min/Always" Internet Explorer« and WebRifle« must 
  183.     refresh the page every time and navigation could be slow. If you change this 
  184.     settings it will have effect after the next reboot.
  185.     If you select "Max/If Needed" the auto-refresh function of WebRifle« will 
  186.     update the page if needed. NOTE: This feature is available if the web server 
  187.     is able to send the expiration time of pages. 
  188.     Max Links Page: Is the maximum amount of links allowed for every page; this 
  189.     limit is necessary because a large amount of links on a page can require 
  190.     high download. You can decrease this value if your preferred sites have page 
  191.     with a lot of links.

  194. You should carefully read the following terms and conditions before using this 
  195. software. Your use of this software indicates your acceptance of this license 
  196. agreement.

  199. WebRifle« (with the 'Standard' features) is freeware for personal use only, and 
  200. may only be distributed with all of its original files. No version of WebRifle 
  201. may be used in any commercial, governmental, or educational institutions without 
  202. registration. A 15 day evaluation period is provided for the 'Additional' 
  203. features, after which they will no longer be available unless WebRifle« is 
  204. registered. Go to Registration page online for details about registration.
  205. A single registered copy of WebRifle« grants you a non-exclusive license to use 
  206. WebRifle« on a single unit of hardware. You may access the registered version of 
  207. WebRifle« through a network, provided that you have obtained individual licenses 
  208. for WebRifle« covering all computers that will run WebRifle« from the network. 
  209. For instance, if six different workstations will access WebRifle« on the 
  210. network,you will need six WebRifle« license, whether they use WebRifle« at 
  211. different times or concurrently.
