  4. GSview 1.4 - PostScript previewer.  Needs Ghostscript 3.53.

  7. Overview
  8. ========
  9. PM GSview is a graphical interface for OS/2 Ghostscript.
  10. GSview for Windows is a graphical interface for MS-Windows Ghostscript.
  11. Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript page description language 
  12. used by laser printers.
  13. For documents following the Adobe PostScript Document Structuring 
  14. Conventions, GSview allows selected pages to be viewed or printed.
  15. Ghostscript is required, preferably version 3.33 or later.  
  16.  
  17. Features include:
  18.  - view pages in arbitrary order (Next, Previous, Goto).
  19.  - selectable display resolution.
  20.  - page size is automatically selected from DSC comments.
  21.  - page size can be selected using the menu.
  22.  - orientation is automatically selected from DSC comments.
  23.  - orientation can be selected using the menu (Portrait, Landscape).
  24.  - print selected pages using Ghostscript.
  25.  - extract selected pages to another file.
  26.  - copy display bitmap to clipboard.
  27.  - save clipboard bitmap as BMP file.
  28.  - add bitmap preview to EPS file (Interchange, TIFF or Windows Metafile)
  29.  - graphically select bounding box for EPS file.
  30.  - extract bitmap preview or postscript from DOS EPS file.

  64. Create four 1.44M floppies containing the following files, or
  65. put them all in the same directory on your hard disk.

  89. Disk 1 is the contents of gsview14.zip plus the file emxrt.zip obtained
  90. from ftp://ftp-os2.nmsu.edu/os2/unix/emx09b/emxrt.zip.
  91. Disks 2 to 4 are obtained from ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/ghost/aladdin/

  93. If using the floppy install method, 7Mbytes of hard disk space is required.
  94.  
  95. To install from OS/2, run 'os2setup.exe' from disk 1.
  96. To install from MS-Windows, run 'winsetup.exe' from disk 1.
  97. The installation will overwrite any version of GSview or
  98. Aladdin Ghostscript in the destination directories.  If you
  99. wish to save your Fontmap file, back it up to another directory.
  100. Make sure that the zip files are transferred in binary mode and
  101. are all present.  The install program will not report bad zip files.
  102.  
  103. If you don't like automatic installation programs, it is 
  104. possible to install GSview and Ghostscript manually.  See
  105. the Setup topic below for more details.

  108. Compilation
  109. ===========
  110. To compile PM GSview you need IBM NMAKE.EXE and EMX/GCC 0.9b
  111. with emxfix01 or later.
  112. To create the PM GSview online help you need the IBM toolkit.
  113. Copy gvpm.mak to Makefile and edit COMPBASE and EMXPATH as required.
  114. Type 'nmake'
  115.  
  116. To compile GSview for Windows you need Borland C++ 3.1 or 4.5.
  117. To compile GSview for Windows Win32s you need Borland C++ 4.5.
  118. Copy gvwin.mak to Makefile then edit COMPBASE and WIN32 as required.
  119. Type 'make'.

  123. =====
  124. Copy gvpm.exe, gvpm.hlp, gsview.exe, gsview32.exe, gsview.hlp 
  125. and gsv16spl.exe to the Ghostscript directory.  
  126. Start GSview then select "Options | Configure Ghostscript",
  127. and enter the correct executable and include paths for Ghostscript.
  128. For example:
  129.   c:\gs\gsos2.exe
  130.   c:\gs;c:\psfonts

  132. PM GSview will run under OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 Warp.  
  133. It may run under OS/2 2.0.
  134. PM GSview has been compiled with EMX/GCC 0.9b and requires
  135. the emx 0.9b DLL's.  These are available from
  136.   ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/os2/unix/emx09b/emxrt.zip

  138. GSview for Windows will run under Windows 3.1.
  139. GSview will probably run under Windows 3.0, but you need a special
  140. version of commdlg.dll, shell.dll and winhelp.exe.  This version has never 
  141. been tested with Windows 3.0.  If it works at all consider yourself lucky.

  143. gsview32.exe will work with Ghostscript under Windows 3.1/Win32s, 
  144. Windows NT 3.5 or Windows 95, but may have a few problems with the 
  145. latter two.

  156. When reporting bugs, please include the version number and date of 
  157. GSview (from the Help | About box), the version number of Ghostscript, 
  158. and the exact wording of any error messages.  Ghostscript error
  159. messages can be copied to the clipboard using the system menu of
  160. the Ghostscript text window.
  161. Do not send me large files unless requested.
  162. If you get a SYS3175 or GPF, please send the address of the GPF - I can 
  163. use this to help locate the bug.
  164. Please distinguish between bugs in GSview and bugs in Ghostscript.
  165. Don't expect a fast response - the work I'm paid to do has a higher
  166. priority.

  211. GSview uses Ghostscript to display the contents of the PostScript
  212. files.  Ghostscript is a separate program from GSview; it is
  213. written and owned by Aladdin Enterprises, not by Russell Lang.

  215. Aladdin Ghostscript comes with a licence that is more restrictive than 
  216. the GNU Licence; in particular, it restricts the distribution of
  217. Aladdin Ghostscript in commercial contexts.  Please see the file PUBLIC
