The CES Official Directory is easy to use: dive right in and click away. Here are a few tips to speed you on your way.
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows: Windows 3.1 or higher, 486 or higher (Pentium recommended).
Mac OS: System 7 or higher, 68030 or higher (PowerPC recommended).
Minimum Screen Size: The CES Official Directory is optimized for a 640x480 screen running at least 256 colors.
CD-ROM Player: Double-speed or higher.
WINDOWS 3.x INSTALLATION NOTES
The CES Official Directory requires Virtual Memory. If Virtual Memory is not enabled, open the "386 Enhanced" control panel located in the "Control Panel", which is in the "Main" program group. From this control panel you can turn on Virtual Memory.
The CES Official Directory is a 32-bit program. Running it under Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 requires the Win32s system enhancements from Microsoft. If the Win32s are not currently installed on your system, the CES Official Directory installer places these enhancements in your system.
The CES Official Directory will not overwrite a previously installed version of Win32s. In some rare cases the previous installation of Win32s may not be working properly, in which case running the CES Official Directory will generate error messages. If you see error messages when running the CES Official Directory under Windows 3.x, reinstall the Win32s.
To reinstall the Win32s from the CES Official Directory CD-ROM, insert the CD into the drive. Choose "Run" from the Program Manager. Type "D:\WIN31\WIN32S\SETUP.EXE" into the dialog box.
FONT REQUIREMENTS
The CES Official Directory will look better on Windows systems if the Arial and Times New Roman fonts are installed, and will look better on Mac OS if Helvetica and Times are installed. (These fonts are installed by default by the Operating System.)
SEARCH
The Official Directory features easy searching of company information for all exhibitors at International CES¿. To achieve a simple search, click the SEARCH button on the Main Menu. On the Search Screen, enter your search criteria. You may search for companies within a particular super-category, such as ╥Audio╙; narrow the seach to a specific category, such as ╥Accessories╙, and again refine the search to a specific sub-category, such as ╥Antennas╙. Any fields left blank are ignored. Once you have entered all the criteria, click the search button to start the search. To find all companies, don╒t enter any criteria.
FOUND LIST
Once you have completed a successful search your results will appear in a scrolling list. A description of the categories searched will appear at the top of the Search Results screen. Click the company name of your choice to see info about that company.
ENHANCED LISTINGS
Some companies have enhanced their listings with web links, photos, or additional text. For a scrolling list of just these companies, click the ENHANCED LISTING button on the main menu. The enhanced company listings have activated buttons to the left of the listing. Click a button to access an enhanced function.
COPYING / PRINTING TEXT
The material on the disc includes text, images, and web links. When you are viewing any text-based material on screen you can hit the COPY button on the top of the screen to place the text in your clipboard. You can then paste the text into a word processor for your own use. Similarly you can click on the PRINT button to print the text.
WORLD WIDE WEB LINKS
If the user╒s machine is connected to the internet and has a properly configured browser, the CES Official Directory will enable the user to connect to the world wide web. Clicking on web link icon will open the user╒s browser of choice and load the web site. If a web link is clicked, but the page fails to load, the web link feature will be disabled until the CES Official Directory is restarted. The web links feature will not work under Windows 3.x.
PHOTOS
When a Photo is on screen there will be a NEXT button on the bottom right and a PREVIOUS button on the bottom left. You can use these buttons to navigate through the slides. When you are on the first slide the PREVIOUS button will disappear. Similarly when you are on the last slide the NEXT button will disappear. To go back to the Press Kit just hit the BACK button at the upper left.
GO BACK BUTTON
The BACK button, when available, will take you back to the previous screen.
TO OBTAIN MORE INFO VIA FAX OR MAIL
The CES Official Directory includes a form you can fill out and fax or mail to the company selected. To print it, click on the PRINT INFO REQUEST button.
