  1. Patch file for creating WILDCAT! v3.55
  2.  
  3. v3.55 is a maintenance release to v3.50/3.51/3.52 made available on
  4. Sept. 11, 1992. It is a free update to all registered users since it
  5. is only a manintenance version with no new features.  Changes are listed
  6. at the end of this text file.
  7.  
  8. It was released as a patch file available electronically on the MSI HQ BBS
  9. and was mailed to subscribers to the Auto-Update Plan.

  13. Application of this patch to a licensed WILDCAT! v3.50, 3.51 or 3.52
  14. actually changes the code to make it identical to the new version 3.55.
  15. It does absolutely nothing without being applied to a registered,
  16. commercial WILDCAT! v3.50/3.51/3.52.
  17.  
  18.  
  19.   It will ONLY operate on a registered commercial copy of WILDCAT! v3.5x,
  20.    and is not a complete program. It is ONLY a patch which performs
  21.   the update to version 3.55. It will NOT work on Test-Drive releases.

  24.    It may only be used by paid licensees of WILDCAT! v3.5x who purchased
  25.         it directly from MSI or through a commercial store.
  26.  
  27.    USE OF THIS PROGRAM BY OTHER THAN REGISTERED USERS OF WILDCAT! v3.5x IS
  28.                        A VIOLATION OF THE LAW.

  33. WILDCAT! v3.55 is a patch update that fixes several problems with the
  34. original release.
  35.  
  36. The update program consists of two parts, the executable patch
  37. program (PATCH.EXE) and the patch data files (WILDx.RPT). The patch
  38. data file contains all the information needed to make changes in
  39. the old executable files and to track the application of patches,
  40. even after multiple updates have been performed.
  41.  
  42. To perform the update follow these simple instructions:
  43.  
  44. 1.  Copy all the patch files to your WILDCAT! home directory (where
  45.     WILDCAT.EXE and WILDCAT.OVR are located).
  46.  
  47. 2.  Before beginning the patch process, make certain that all WILDCAT!
  48.     and TOMCAT executable files are present including .EXE and OVR files.
  49.     If any are missing or have been modified, the patch program will not
  50.     run.  If you have made any modifications to your .EXE or .OVR files
  51.     you must copy the originals from your distribution disk prior to
  52.     running the patch.

  54. 3.  From the WILDCAT! directory type
  55.  
  56.                 PATCH WC355x.RTP
  57.  
  58.     (replace the 'x' with the appropriate letter for your version, S, M, P,
  59.     or I) and press <ENTER> to update the WILDCAT! files.
  60.  
  61. 4.  To update your TOMCAT! files, from the WILDCAT! directory type
  62.  
  63.                 PATCH TC355.RTP
  64.  
  65.     and press <ENTER>.  If you have the Intelligent Multiport version of
  66.     WILDCAT! and TOMCAT! you should enter PATCH TC355I.RTP instead.
  67.  
  68. 5.  If you have wcMHS (the MHS Gateway program), from the WILDCAT!
  69.     directory type
  70.  
  71.                 PATCH WCMHS355.RTP
  72.  
  73.     and press <ENTER>.
  74.  
  75. 6.  A successful patch process results in a screen indicating that no
  76.     errors were encountered.
  77.  
  78. 7.  You may delete the patch files from your WILDCAT! directory after
  79.     running them with the command
  80.  
  81.                 DELETE *.RTP
  82.                 DELETE PATCH.EXE
  83.  
  84. Also included on the diskette are documentation files for TOMCAT!, TNet
  85. and WCFILE.  While most users have copies of these files, either in the
  86. manual or on disk, some seem to have never received the full
  87. documentation.   The files included are:

  89. TCDOCS.ZIP - TOMCAT! and TNet docs
  90. WCFILE.DOC - WCFILE docs
  91.

  93. This maintenance update is provided free of charge.

  96. WILDCAT! v3.55 addresses the following:
  97.  
  98. - Sysop file search now checks for carrier loss. Previously, carrier loss
  99.   during a search was not noticed.
  100.  
  101. - Can now edit Shell/Terminate for batch file events.
  102.  
  103. - Single/double and full file display choices now work in file searches.
  104.   It previously forced double line for all displays.
  105.  
  106. - Zmodem now waits for an ACK after sending ZCRCW packets.  This problem
  107.   affected any transfers that did not use the full streaming capability
  108.   of Zmodem and caused download failures.
  109.  
  110. - Zmodem didn't support positioning (ZRPOS) ahead into a file after the
  111.   transfer was started, now does to support Procomm for Windows skip
  112.   function.
  113.  
  114. - Kermit had problems with systems requesting only one sliding window,
  115.   and now support 26 sliding windows (down from 31) in order to work
  116.   around a bug in MSKermit.
  117.  
  118. - If files are copied from CD to harddrive for transfer, sorting of
  119.   download list could cause the protocol window to display wrong file
  120.   information.
  121.  
  122. - Changed the async routines to allow it to properly handle some unique
  123.   interrupt controllers. The error that was encountered was a comm
  124.   failure on startup, on return from TOMCAT! or return from a DOOR.
  125.  
  126. - Fixed a problem with Xmodem not supporting the old Xmodem/Checksum
  127.   method of error correction.  Xmodem/CRC was operating properly.
  128.  
  129. - Fixed a memory decay problem that resulted in loss of 12K every time
  130.   mail was read using the mail check at login feature.  This created
  131.   errors related to insufficient memory for program operation after
  132.   several days of repeated mail reading at login.
  133.  
  134. - Fixed an invalid pointer operation error that was generated when not
  135.   enough memory was available to allocate the screen buffer for DOS shell.
  136.  
  137. - Changed program operation to look for SETALIAS.BBS in the display file
  138.   directory.
  139.  
  140. - Removed log entry and display of message "xx rings without connect".
  141.  
  142. - Changed operation of auto-answer mode to avoid any possibility of
  143.   flushing a result code and hanging-up after connect.  It was possible
  144.   for a modem result code to be lost and WILDCAT! to hang-up if the modem
  145.   was making use of auto-answer mode.
