Thank you for downloading Apprentice!
Before you get started, here are a few instructions.
What's new in this version:
-Bug fixes (no reappearing objects, fixed GUI freezes, removed AGS global keyboard shortcuts, etc.)
-Enhanced GUI ("smart" inventory arrows)
-Added dialogue (improved several hints, etc.)
-Secret bonus puzzle (wonder why this version takes up 500K more than the last one?)
Running the game:
We designed Apprentice to run in the 320x240 (letterboxed mode). If the scaling is a bit too
chunky for you, you can also run it in 640x480 (letterboxed), but keep in mind that the characters
will lose detail in animations.
Controls & GUI:
When you move the cursor (magic wand) to the bottom of the screen, the command GUI appears.
From this menu, you can order Pib to "look at," "take," "talk to," or "use" a hotspot. When you put
your cursor over a hotspot, the wand glows yellow and the name of the hotspot appears in the
command line. If the hotspot is a location, the wand glows red.
If choosing commands off the GUI is too slow for you, you can also use the keyboard shortcuts.
1 = look at
2 = take
3 = talk to
4 = use
By moving the cursor up to the top of the screen, you will see another GUI appear. From this one,
you can bring up the save and load dialogues, as well as exit the game.
To skip a cutscene, you can press the escape key at any time during one. To skip a line of text (during
a cutscene or just in normal gameplay) simply left-click or press any key.
To cancel a GUI command (like "look at") right-click the mouse.
If the game freezes due to a bug, or your boss enters the room, you can press CTRL+ALT+END to
immediately exit.
Known Bugs:
We know if you try to use an inventory object that has a long name with the "fiercely goofy (and
enchanted) forest" the command line text runs off the edge of the screen. We considered reducing
the length of the forest's title, but we decided in favor of keeping it humorous. Besides, why use
anything with the forest anyways?
We found several minor problems with the pathfinding in the "Outside tower" room, but we're blaming
it on AGS. Sorry, CJ.
