  12.     Thank you for trying the "Redjack: Revenge of the Brethren" 
  13. Demo. These release notes contain information on installing 
  14. Redjack, some general tips, and a list of known problems.
  15.  
  16.     For more information on installing and troubleshooting
  17. problems with RedJack, please first see the install notes on the
  18. inside of the CD liner.

  36. ---- INSTALLING THE REDJACK DEMO ------------------------------

  38. WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS NT 4.0, AND LATER:
  39.  
  40.     Double-click on 'setup.exe' and follow the on-screen 
  41.     instructions.
  42.  
  43. WINDOWS NT 3.51:
  44.  
  45.     1. Insert the demo cd in your CD-ROM drive.
  46.     2. In Program Manager, select "File/Run" from the menu.
  47.     3. Type 
  48.        D:REDJACK\SETUP
  49.        where "D:" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  50.     4. Select "Install Redjack" from the window that appears.
  51.     5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  54. ---- KEYBOARD COMMANDS -----------------------------------------
  55.  
  56. While playing the Windows version of Redjack, you can use 
  57. the following keys:
  58.  
  59. Esc                 Skip animation or movies
  60. Spacebar            Bring up the control panel
  61. Arrow keys          Control player navigation, these are editable
  62. Ctrl 0 thru Ctrl 9  Set sound volume, Ctrl 0 = off, Ctrl 9 = loud
  63. Ctrl Q              Quit the game and return to the main menu
  64. Ctrl +              Increase/decrease the brightness of the screen
  65. Ctrl -              Increase/decrease the brightness of the screen

  68. ---- GENERAL TIPS ----------------------------------------------

  70. INSTALL DIRECTX
  71.  
  72.   Redjack needs Microsoft's DirectX Version 3.0 or greater to operate
  73.   in Windows 95, but we do not automatically install this software
  74.   for you. This is because DirectX replaces your sound and video
  75.   drivers with the most current versions, and this could potentially
  76.   cause problems on some machines, see the note on removing DirectX
  77.   below. Many computers already have DirectX, so you probably will
  78.   not need to install it unless Redjack doesn't work.
  79.  
  80.   If you would like to install DirectX, Version 5 has been provided
  81.   on Redjack Disc 1. To install, double click on the icon "My Computer"
  82.   in the upper left of your screen. Right click on your Redjack CD
  83.   entitled "RJDisk1" and choose the option "Open" from the pop-up menu. 
  84.   Open the folder "DirectX", and again the folder "DirectX" inside of 
  85.   that. Locate the "dxsetup.exe" program, run it, and follow the
  86.   on-screen instructions.
  87.  
  88. CHECK YOUR HARD DISK
  89.  
  90.   Redjack requires 65 MB of local hard disk space for installation. 
  91.   The game will also take advantage of up to 250 MB of additional space
  92.   for temporary usage. Having this space available on your hard disk
  93.   ensures that Redjack will run as fast as possible and with the most
  94.   detailed graphics. 
  95.  
  96.   Hard disks can become corrupted or fragmented for a variety of reasons. 
  97.   If you are experiencing problems when Redjack is installed or during 
  98.   gameplay when files are copied to your hard disk we recommend using a
  99.   commercial hard disk utility to verify and defragment your disk.
  100.  
  101. ADJUST YOUR COLOR PALETTE
  102.  
  103.   Your computer may run Redjack faster in "High Color" mode, but "True
  104.   Color" will look better. To adjust this before playing, right click 
  105.   your desktop and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu that
  106.   appears, then choose the "Settings" tab. Select "High Color" or "True
  107.   Color" from the "Color Palette" menu, sometimes these items are
  108.   referred to as "16 Bit Color" or "32 Bit Color." Then run RedJack.
  109.   The color palette can also be adjusted inside the game by hitting the
  110.   spacebar to bring up the control panel and then clicking the "More"
  111.   button in the lower right.

  113. ADJUST YOUR SCREEN BRIGHTNESS
  114.  
  115.   Your screen may have a brightness control that needs to be adjusted.
  116.   Also, holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the "+" or "-" keys will
  117.   adjust brightness during the game with software as needed.
  118.  
  119. CHECK YOUR EXTERNAL SPEAKERS
  120.  
  121.   Redjack sounds great with a good pair of external speakers or
  122.   headphones. For quieter play turn on "Subtitles." Simply hit the
  123.   spacebar to bring up the control panel and then click the "More"
  124.   button in the lower right.

  127. ---- KNOWN PROBLEMS -------------------------------------------
  128.  
  129. CONFLICTS WITH SOME SCREEN SAVERS
  130.  
  131.   If you have a screen saver installed, we recommend you disable
  132.   it before playing Redjack.  Some screen savers can cause the
  133.   screen to be erased and not repainted correctly, and other
  134.   screen savers that play sounds can cause Redjack to crash.
  135.  
  136. DIRECTX REPLACES YOUR DISPLAY DRIVERS
  137.  
  138.   If DirectX replaced your display drivers and you want them 
  139.   back, you can restore them by choosing Add/Remove Programs in 
  140.   the Control Panel, then removing "DirectX Drivers." See the 
  141.   installation guide for more information.
  142.  
  143. SET YOUR DESKTOP AREA TO 640 x 480
  144.  
  145.   Sometimes Redjack cannot start up unless your Desktop Area has
  146.   been set to 640 X 480. To do this, right click on your desktop
  147.   and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu that appears, then
  148.   choose the "Settings" tab. Drag the "Desktop Area" slider all the
  149.   way to the left, then start Redjack.
  150.  
  151. TURN ON HARDWARE ACCELERATION
  152.  
  153.   Be sure that Hardware Acceleration is turned on. From the "Start"
  154.   menu, select "Settings" and then "Control Panel." Select the "System"
  155.   icon, and then choose the "Performance" tab. Under "Advanced Settings"
  156.   click the "Graphics" button. Drag the "Hardware Acceleration" slider
  157.   all the way to the right if it is not there already.
