  9. The Sparrow is a semi-
  10. active radar homing 
  11. missile.  Originally 
  12. designed in the early 
  13. 1950s, the AIM-7 is 
  14. nearing the end of 
  15. its service life. 
  16. Although its range and 
  17. speed are sufficient, 
  18. the Sparrow still 
  19. relies on the firer's 
  20. radar for guidance, and 
  21. it is being supplanted 
  22. by "fire and forget" 
  23. missiles such as the
  24. AMRAAM. 
  25.
