- HISTORY:
- The attack on Wheeler Field cought most of the P-40 and P-36 fighters of
- the 7th Fighter Command on the ground. Six pilots, however, managed to
- get their planes into the air. Overwhelmingly outnumbered, they scored
- the first American victories of the war, shooting down 12 enemy planes.

- MISSION:
- Accompany 2nd lieutenants George Welch and Ken Taylor over Ewa Marine
- Corps Air Station. Land at any friendly air base to be refueled and
- rearmed. (George Welch and Ken Taylor each shot down at least four
- enemy planes, and were among the first USAAF aces of the war.)
