Welcome to Elektra v0.90b (Dec 14 1999)!
========================================
About Elektra
=============
Elektra is a clone of the classic arcade QIX (made 1981 by Taito America
Corp).
The idea of this classic is very simple: You must cover as much territory as
possible without getting killed by the enemies. You cover a territory by
filling rectangles on the screen, and when you've covered enough area, you can
proceed to the next level and start again on a new territory.
Elektra was written in C and DirectX using Microsoft Visual C++ compiler. It
is our first DirectX game so feel free to email us comments about how good or
how bad you think Elektra is!
Gameplay
========
On each level you must cover 65% of the total territory in order to reach the
next level. But the more you cover above the required limit, the better bonus
points you will get! The 65% limit will probably change in future versions so
that you can choose different levels of difficulty where the required
percentage of the area varies.
When you cover territory you can do this in two different speeds - fast or
slow. The slow method is more tricky as you will become more vulnerable, but
on the other hand the slow method will give you double points for each
territory covered!
Your enemies are:
* The spinning "QIX" which moves around inside the territory.
* The travelling "Sparx" which move along the borders of the territory.
* The "Fuse" which will track you down if you're hesitating!
There is also a timer running, and if time runs out, you will get a new timer
so the game goes on, but there will also be two extra sparx chasing you down,
and if you let time run out again, the four sparx will become faster and
faster....
You start off with 5 lives, and when you lost all of these you die and the
game has ended. If you're lucky enough to have scored enough points you may
end up on the top 10 high score list. When you first install Elektra there are
already 10 pre-installed hi-scores but these should be very easy to beat! When
you play Elektra you will notice that on the right hand side of the screen you
can see your current score on top of the "hi-score" which is the best score
ever reached on your computer. If you think you've reached a descent hi-score
and wish to compete with others, feel free to email us your hi-score and we
can see if anyone else can beat it!
Controls
========
When you first start Elektra you will see the main menu. Use your arrow keys
to browse the option you require and then use the Enter key to select the
current option. Whenever you want to go back to the main menu, use the escape
(Esc) key.
Unfortunately, at the moment you can not use a joystick to control your
marker. Please let us know if you want this added! To control your marker, use
the following keys:
Arrow keys - up, down, left, right (you might've guessed)
Left Shift - slow movement
Left Ctrl - fast movement
F1 - pause current game (this is when you get a new coke from the fridge)
Esc (Escape) - go back to the main menu (you can always resume the current
game from there)
