  11. Collect the hearts to win in a pliable immersive 3D roller coaster
  12. arcade game. Single or multiplayer gameplay.

  18. Unzip the archive and place the bonzala folder wherever you want.
  19. You will need to create a shortcut to the bonzala.exe yourself as
  20. there is no convenient install utility yet.

  23. Quick Problem Solver
  24. =====================

  26. There are several command line switches you can use to alter the
  27. way bonzala uses your hardware. Create a shortcut and use the /?
  28. switch to see what switches are available.
  29.  
  30. Just sky with no text visible at start up :
  31.     /a ( alternative font renderer ) switch may work.
  32. Display / blank screen :
  33.     <Ctrl-F> toggles fogging.
  34. It's too slow :
  35.     <Ctrl-B> toggles rendering of background. Also see DEPTH and
  36.     MESH explained below. The default settings are for a Pentium II
  37.     350 with i740 3D accelerator, so if you have a slower system,
  38.     be prepared to have to alter settings to make it playable.
  39. 'Error initializing DirectInput' at start up :
  40.     DirectX is probably not installed.
  41. How do I uninstall it ? :
  42.     Just delete the bonzala folder.
  43. Everything is black / white checkered :
  44.     You are probably running in a zip archive. Dearchive it to enable
  45.     it to find the graphics and sounds.
  46. Why is it free ? :

  54. Known Issues
  55. ============

  57. The software renderer only draws properly when the desktop is set
  58. to 16bpp. Other desktop bit depths will cause bonzala to draw with
  59. all the colours incorrect and all squashed to the left hand side of
  60. the window.
  61.  
  62. The software renderer is not perspective correct at the moment.
  63.  
  64. Certain older 2D only cards do not support 565 pixel format which
  65. causes the software renderer to draw everything in distorted colours
  66. which tend to look a bit psychedelic. There is no fix for this at
  67. the moment.

  69. Instructions

  72. Once the game has loaded up, the cursor keys on the keyboard control the
  73. menu system in the lower part of the screen. The menu is used to do the
  74. following :

  76.  GAME-> EASY [Enter] Starts a new game with small number of bad guys.
  77.       > MODERATE [Enter] Start a new game with a medium number of bad guys.
  78.       > EXTREME [Enter] Start game with large number of bad guys.
  79.       > ABANDON [Enter] Quits the game.

  81.  LEVEL-> XXX [Enter] Previews [ and selects ] a new pseudo random level.

  83.  VIDEO-> STYLE-> BACKGROUND [Enter] Toggles rendering of background. Use to increase framerate.
  84.                > WIREFRAME [Enter] Toggles wireframe mode. Not available on software renderer.
  85.                > FOG [Enter] Toggles fog. Use to increase framerate.

  87.        > SCENERY-> XXX Selects amount of scenery. Changes in scenery are not visible until a new level is selected.
  88.        > PLAYERS-> Xxx Selects number of players and viewport orientation. Extra players are not initialised until a new level started.
  89.        > MESH-> XXX Selects the polygon sub division level. Use to increase quality of gameworld.
  90.        > DEPTH-> XXX Selects draw distance. Use to increase framerate.
  91.        > LENS-> XXX Changes camera view angle. Not very useful.
  92.        > SOFTWARE-> XXX Selects a software renderer resolution. The last entry in the list is windowed.

  101. Quick Start
  102. ===========

  104. Locate the GAME->EASY option and press ENTER to start playing.
  105.  
  106. The idea is to get all the heart shaped things to complete the game. You
  107. will need to use the swing bridges which are operated by letting your
  108. flyer coast over the top of the red and white spinning discs whereupon it
  109. will stop and your sideways direction controls will then operate the bridge.
  110. To leave the spinning disc, just press the forward button and your flyer
  111. will then be on it's way again.
  112.  
  113. Collecting a purple heart will cause the football shaped monsters
  114. to temporarily shrink in size. While reduced, you can collide with them
  115. without loosing any hearts you have collected. You can also get round them
  116. where normally they would block the road.
  117.  
  118. Hide behind the red and white transporter barriers and the monsters will not
  119. harm you when they come through.
  120.   
  121. Pressing ESCAPE at any time during a game brings up the menu again enabling
  122. you to alter visual aspects, choose other levels or restart the game
  123. you are playing.

  125. ALT-ENTER will toggle between full-screen and windowed mode.
  126. ALT-F4 quits back to windows.

  134. this software, although it will do it's upmost to ensure no damage can be
