- string 178 55 0 1 The brook trout is not common in the British Isles,
- string 178 68 0 1 it was introduced to this country from America
- string 178 81 0 1 with little success in 1884. The brook trout is a
- string 20 94 0 1 member of the char family, not the trout as the name would suggest. Only on very
- string 20 107 0 1 specialist venues, can you expect to catch this species. The best baits to use are
- string 20 120 0 1 large insect baits, like the lobworm or caterpillar. This species also feeds very
- string 20 133 0 1 aggressively on other fish, so livebait, deadbait and artificial lures are also
- string 20 146 0 1 very effective baits to use. Occasionly the brook trout will rise for flies, but
- string 20 159 0 1 only normally occurs in cooler weather. Still water and very slow flowing coldwater
- string 20 172 0 1 streams with plenty of depth is the favoured habitat of this species. Brook trout
- string 20 185 0 1 do not live very long and hence rarely reach a large size. A specimen of 5 lb 13 oz's
- string 20 198 0 1 has been recorded but any brook trout around 2 lbs can be regarded as an excellent
- string 20 211 0 1 catch. In fact, given the small popularity of this species, any catch at all would
- string 20 224 0 1 be a hardy achievment.
