  7. FIBS/W is a Microsoft Windows(TM) based client for the First
  8. International Backgammon Server (FIBS) -- an Internet server 
  9. which allows users to play against human opponents all over 
  10. the world. FIBS/W provides a graphical game board and mouse-driven 
  11. interface to the FIBS server.
  12.  
  13. Powerful configuration options for many common Internet host systems,
  14. and communications service providers, and a built-in communications 
  15. scripting language allow FIBS/W to automatically dial and connect 
  16. to FIBS via the Internet with a single mouse click.
  17.  
  18. FIBS/W will work with either dial-up dumb-terminal-server access to 
  19. the Internet or access via TCP/IP, SLIP or PPP. To use TCP/IP, SLIP 
  20. or PPP, your system must have a properly installed set of Winsock v1.1
  21. DLLs. If in doubt, you must be able to satisfy one of the following
  22. conditions:

  24. (1) You can dial up an internet host using Windows Terminal, and establish 
  25.     telnet connections with systems on the internet.
  26.     
  27. (2) You are using TCP/IP, SLIP or PPP connections, and have a working 
  28.     copy of WINSOCK.DLL installed on your system.
  29.     
  30. FIBS/W requires version 3.1 or later of Microsoft Windows, or any 
  31. version of Windows for Workgroups or Windows/NT. FIBS/W will also run 
  32. as a Windows application under OS/2 2.X.

  45.   INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING FIBS/W
  46.  
  47. You may place FIBS/W anywhere on your hard drive as long as all files
  48. in this distribution are placed in the same directory. The following 
  49. instructions assume that the files have been placed in the directory 
  50. C:\FIBSW.
  51.  
  52. To install FIBS/W as an icon in the Windows Program Manager, follow these
  53. instructions.
  54.  
  55. (1) Activate the Windows Program Manager.
  56.  
  57. (2) Activate the window containing the program group in which you 
  58.     want to install the FIBS/W icon. (Click on either the "Main"
  59.     program group window or the "Games" program group window, or 
  60.     choose a program group that you prefer).
  61.  
  62. (3) Choose the menu item File/New...
  63.  
  64. (4) In the New Program Object dialog, select Program Item, and 
  65.     press the OK button.
  66.  
  67. (5) In the Program Item Properties dialog, enter "FIBS/W" in the 
  68.     Description field. (For this field and all others, ommit the 
  69.     enclosing quotes). In the Command Line field, enter 
  70.     "C:\FIBSW\FIBSW.EXE". If you have placed the FIBS/W files in 
  71.     another a directory other than C:\FIBSW, modify this line 
  72.     accordingly. The working directory and shortcut key fields may
  73.     be left blank. The Run Minimized checkbox should be unchecked.
  74.     Press the OK button.
  75.     
  76. If you have followed the instructions correctly, you should see
  77. a new icon in the currently active program group entitled 
  78. "FIBS/W". From now on you can double-click on this icon to 
  79. start FIBS/W.
  80.  
  81. FIBSW.EXE will automatically create a FIBSW.INI file in your Windows
  82. directory the first time it is run.
  83.  
  84. Detailed documentation and configuration instructions are provided 
  85. in the on-line help files. Press the F1 key while FIBSW.EXE is running to
  86. access the on-line help.

  88. Briefly, before attempting to connect to FIBS, you must 
  89.  
  90. (1) Choose and configure a comminications port using the 
  91.     Options/Modem Settings... menu command. This menu command
  92.     allows you to choose either a serial port, or Winsock to 
  93.     connect to FIBS. If you need help choosing values in this 
  94.     dialog, press the Help button for further instructions.
  95.  
  96. (2) Choose and configure an automated login script 
  97.     using the Options/Connect Script Settings... menu command.
  98.     If you need help choosing values in this dialog,
  99.     press the Help button for further instructions.

  101. Once you have done this issue the Communications/Connect menu command
  102. to connect to FIBS. If you are satisified with the settings, you may
  103. select the menu command Options/Auto Connect When Loading to cause
  104. FIBS/W to connect automatically when started up.

  111.   TERMS OF LICENSE
  112.  
  113. FIBS/W is provided as Shareware. The registration fee is US$40. This
  114. version of FIBS/W includes a Nag Screen (a mildly annoying dialog
  115. which is displayed every time the program is run) but is otherwise
  116. fully functional.

  118. Copies of FIBS/W may be distributed without charge provided that 
  119. the shareware version of FIBS/W is distributed complete and 
  120. unmodified.
