  1. Dear SaveNow User -
  2. SaveNow was downloaded onto your computer most probably as a co-bundle 
  3. with other software that you downloaded from the Internet.  It comes 
  4. with a license agreement that you must accept, and if somehow you 
  5. received it without accepting the license agreement please let us know 
  6. at legal@whenu.com, because that is against our partner distribution 
  7. agreements.

  9. SaveNow is a program that gives you relevant offers and tells you about 
  10. other similar sites when you surf the web and allows you to take our 
  11. full WhenUShop product (if it is relevant for you). For example, if you 
  12. went to a search engine and typed in "long distance", you might get an 
  13. offer for SmartPrice - a site that we found to be the best for 
  14. comparing long distance plans.  If you go to a job search site, we 
  15. might show you an offer for Hotjobs - which is right now offering great 
  16. value to users that post resumes at their site.  If you go to Staples, 
  17. you might see an offer for a $30 off coupon that will save you money 
  18. when you shop there.  We show these offers infrequently so as not to be 
  19. instrusive.

  21. SaveNow protects users privacy and does not require personally 
  22. identifiable information - below is an excerpt from the privacy policy 
  23. that partners include when you download our co-bundled software.  
  24.  
  25. "SaveNow offers you relevant contextual information as you surf the web 
  26. and by downloading SaveNow you give permission to SaveNow to display 
  27. relevant contextual information.  In order to provide SaveNow users 
  28. with such information, SaveNow delivers content based on the URL 
  29. visited by the user.   SaveNow protects users' privacy by determining 
  30. on the client side whether or not to retrieve information from 
  31. WhenU.com servers.  Client-server communication takes place only on an 
  32. as-needed basis, and SaveNow does NOT transmit a full history of URLS 
  33. visited by the user to the WhenU.com servers.  WhenU.com does NOT 
  34. assemble personally-identifiable profiles of SaveNow users and 
  35. personally identifiable information is not required in order to use the 
  36. SaveNow software."

  38. SaveNow is NOT spyware - there is no persistent communication between 
  39. client and server. Users have noted that the program contacts our 
  40. servers every once in a while - it does so in order to retrieve content 
  41. from us and store that content on the client side. There is one daily 
  42. communication sent just to let us know that the client is functioning - 
  43. nothing more (ie no collection of browsing history, etc).  The app 
  44. polls for the presence of new browser windows every 3 seconds - which 
  45. results in sustained (but very low) CPU usage.

  47. Typically, data sent to client is done in very small chunks of less 
  48. than 4K - hardly noticeable. Upon installation, there will be some 
  49. bandwidth usage as the initial database is loaded - this is a one time 
  50. event. Very infrequently, there might be a sustained burst of data sent 
  51. to the client - this would only be done if we: updated the client 
  52. itself (which we do from time to time to improve performance) or 
  53. updated the entire database. Again, these are one time events - the 
  54. application does NOT use bandwidth on a sustained basis. The software 
  55. takes up only slightly more RAM than your IE browser control (it shares 
  56. RAM with it) and is designed to be non-instrusive and non-invasive.

  58. If you do want to uninstall, you can do so through the add/remove 
  59. function in your control panel.  Of course we encourage you to leave it 
  60. on so that you can benefit from the occasional offers that it shows
