  23.      This CD-ROM is provided as a convenience to readers of PC World and has
  24.      been tested extensively before release. However PC World cannot be held
  25.      responsible for any damage to your system caused directly or indirectly by
  26.      any software on the PC World CD-ROM, corrupted files, faulty CD-ROM media
  27.      or viruses (or similar programs such as Trojan horses or Worms).

  30.      Third party programs such as demos, freeware and shareware are supplied
  31.      "as-is" and PC World does not have the resources to provide support for
  32.      these programs. Any questions you have should be directed to the vendors of
  33.      these programs.

  36.      VIRUSES

  39.      The PC World Plus CD is scanned for viruses and machines used for producing
  40.      the CDs are also monitored for unusual behavior. However, it is highly
  41.      recommended that you check each CD-ROM for viruses. If you wish to stop the
  42.      CD's autorun file from starting, so you can check for viruses before
  43.      launching it, then hold the shift key down while inserting the CD into 
  44.      your PC (this will work only for Windows 95/98/NT).

  46.      DAMAGED CDs

  49.      If your CD arrived damaged, please e-mail subscriptions@idg.co.nz with
  50.      a description of the damage and your contact information. Or you can
  51.      phone PC World's subscriptions department on 0-9-377 9902 or 0800 IDG SUBS. 
  52.      If possible, please have your subscriber number on hand.

  55.      Replacement CDs are available for a short time after the publication
  56.      date and while we endeavor to keep a supply of spare CDs, we cannot
  57.      guarantee they will always be available. Replacement CDs may be sent with
  58.      alternative packaging to the CD case.

  60.      PLEASE NOTE:
  61.      If a CD does not work in your PC, please check the surface of the CD
  62.      for dust, scratches, cracks or other imperfections. Also, if possible, test
  63.      the CD in another PC to see whether the problem is on your PC or you have a
  64.      faulty CD.

  69.      HOW THE CD-ROM WORKS
  70.  
  71.      AUTOMATICALLY LAUNCHES YOUR BROWSER
  72.      This CD was designed in the form of an offline, interactive Web site, and
  73.      so runs entirely from a Web browser.

  76.      You do NOT have to be connected to the Internet to access the contents
  77.      ofthis CD.

  80.      For Windows 95, 98 and NT users, simply insert the CD-ROM into its
  81.      drive, and the CD should launch your default Web browser immediately, loading
  82.      up the main page to take you through the CD. You can also double click on
  83.      index.htm in the root of the CD to access the same page from within
  84.      your browser.

  87.      For Linux and Windows 3.1 users (or those who have switched off the
  88.      "autorun" feature in Windows 95/98/NT), simply insert the CD into the
  89.      CD drive and launch your Web browser. From the browser menu, choose File,
  90.      Open..., and open the file index.htm in the root of the CD-ROM.

  92.      ERROR MESSAGES FROM YOUR BROWSER
  93.      If you receive an error message from your Web browser when trying to
  94.      access a Web site (such as the PC World Web site), please make sure your modem
  95.      is switched on and you are connected to the Internet.

  97.      DON'T HAVE A BROWSER?
  98.      If you do not have a Web browser, go to the root directory of the
  99.      CD-ROM and double-click start16.exe. This program is for Windows 3.x/95/98/NT
  100.      operating systems. The installation program will check your system and
  101.      install the Web browser of your choice.

  104.      If you simply wish to skip the interactive Web browser interface
  105.      (recommended for advanced users only), then you can still access all of
  106.      the software on the CD-ROM. Simply copy the zipped or executable programs
  107.      to your hard drive directly from the CD. However, please not that the CD
  108.      often contains important information relating to a program such as a
  109.      password, installation instructions or other crucial details.

  111.      DOWNLOADING FILES
  112.      Some installation programs must be run from directly from the CD, such
  113.      as Internet Explorer or Windows system updates. In these cases there will
  114.      NOT be a download link and further instruction will be given.

  120.      SPECIAL NOTES FOR USERS OF INTERNET EXPLORER 2 AND NETSCAPE 2

  123.      If you use version 2 of either Netscape or Internet Explorer, some of
  124.      the images on the CD and frames may not display correctly (the opening
  125.      screen may be blank). In order to get the most from the CD, it is strongly
  126.      recommended that you use version 3 or later of these programs. If you
  127.      wish to install the latest version of the browsers on this CD, go to the
  128.      Browsers folder and open Browsers.htm for further instructions.

  145.      hardware and software. It may contain the answer to your problem.
