  18. 1. BMBoot to PQBoot
  19. -------------------
  20. BMBOOT.EXE no longer ships with BootMagic.  It has been replaced with
  21. PQBOOT.EXE and PQBOOT32.EXE.  PQBOOT.EXE is a 16-bit DOS program and
  22. has all the features of BMBoot, plus the features of PQBoot.
  23. PQBOOT32.EXE is the 32-bit version of PQBoot, and it will run from
  24. Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 9x.  PQBoot32 requires PQVXD.VXD 
  25. to be in the same directory when run under Windows 9x.

  28. 2. Installing under Windows 2000
  29. -------------------------------
  30. When Installing BootMagic from Windows 2000, it is recommended that 
  31. you install to a FAT16 partition.  If you install to a FAT32 partition, 
  32. the rescue diskettes will not see the BootMagic partition.  If you do 
  33. install to a FAT32 partition, you can create rescue diskettes from a 
  34. Windows 98 machine; then the disks will see the FAT32 BootMagic 
  35. partition correctly.

  38. 3. Known Issues
  39. ---------------
  40.  
  41.     A. Removable Drives
  42.     -------------------
  43.     Problems with some removable media drives will cause 
  44.     significant delays when booting your machine.  If you are 
  45.     experiencing long delays and you have a removable media 
  46.     drive, make sure you have a cartridge in the drive when
  47.     you are booting your machine or configuring BootMagic.  
  48.  
  49.     B. Making Copies of the Home Partition
  50.     --------------------------------------
  51.     If you make a copy of the home partition using software such
  52.     as PartitionMagic(R) or Drive Image(R), you will end up with
  53.     two partitions that look like the home partition, and the
  54.     BootMagic configuration program will not run.  If your hard
  55.     drive is in this state, you must boot with the BootMagic 
  56.     rescue disk. The rescue disk will take you through the steps 
  57.     needed to fix the problem.

  59.     C. Installing to a Compressed Drive
  60.     -----------------------------------
  61.     We recommend that you do not install BootMagic to a partition
  62.     that already has disk compression installed on it.  If you
  63.     choose to install BootMagic to a partition with disk
  64.     compression, we recommend you uninstall the disk compression
  65.     software from your disk before installing BootMagic.  For
  66.     information on uninstalling your disk compression software,
  67.     see your disk compression documentation.

  69.     If you decide to install BootMagic onto a drive with disk
  70.     compression, you must make sure the portion of the disk that
  71.     is not compressed (the host partition) is large enough for
  72.     BootMagic.  BootMagic must be installed on the uncompressed
  73.     portion of your hard disk.  For information on adjusting free
  74.     space from the compressed volume to the host partition, see
  75.     your disk compression documentation.

  77.     For BootMagic to operate correctly, ensure the disk compression
  78.     software is configured to make the host partition visible and
  79.     assign it a drive letter.  If your host partition is set to
  80.     Hidden, BootMagic may continue to install, but you will not be
  81.     able to run the BootMagic Configuration program or uninstall
  82.     BootMagic.  If BootMagic tries to install to a drive letter
  83.     that you are not aware you have, your system may have disk
  84.     compression software installed and it may have hidden the host
  85.     partition.

  87.     D. Uninstalling the DOS Installation and Uninstalling Manually
  88.     --------------------------------------------------------------
  89.     If you installed BootMagic using the DOS installation and wish
  90.     to uninstall, or if you wish to uninstall manually, do the
  91.     following:
  92.  
  93.     Disable BootMagic in the BootMagic Configuration program by
  94.     unchecking the "BootMagic Enabled" check box and clicking the
  95.     "Save/Exit" button.  Reboot your machine and delete the
  96.     \BTMAGIC.PQ subdirectory.

  98.     E. IDE/SCSI Disk Mixes on Windows NT/Windows 2000
  99.     -------------------------------------------------
  100.     If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000 with SCSI and IDE 
  101.     hard disks, and you have set your computer to boot from one 
  102.     of the SCSI drives, the drives may appear in a different order 
  103.     in the BootMagic Configuration program than they appear at 
  104.     boot time.  This can result in BootMagic failing to appear 
  105.     after installing from Windows NT or Windows 2000. 
  106.  
  107.     Also, menu items added to the BootMagic menu under Windows NT
  108.     or Windows 2000 may not be found at boot time.  As a work-around, 
  109.     install BootMagic from DOS or Windows 9x and run the BootMagic
  110.     Configuration program from DOS or Windows 9x.
