By 7 P.M., the battle of Waterloo has been raging for nearly
eight hours without respite. ^1Wellington's^ army is badly
shaken by this struggle, but has yielded hardly an inch to
the French Army's battering tactics. ^3Napoleon's^ troops are
also exhausted, and are now fighting the British and
Prussians simultaneously on two fronts. So far in the battle,
the Emperor has held back most of the best units of ^4Friant's^
powerful Imperial Guard, and now he decides to employ
them in what he hopes will be the coup de grace to
Wellington's Army. With ^2Marshal Ney^, the "Bravest of the
Brave," at their head, Napoleon directs his beloved
Guardsmen to attack Wellington's ^6right-center^. It is there,
however, that the Duke has deployed several depleted but
firm brigades with orders to hold their position at all costs.
The fate of Europe for generations is about to be decided!
Will the Imperial Guard break the enemy line or fall back
("recule") in disorder?

ANGLO-ALLIED STRATEGY TIPS
The British have very good troops in a superior position, but
they must be very careful if the French concentrate on only
one hill. ^8Maitland^ can shift east or west depending on the
main French assault, but it might also be necessary to
dispatch additional regiments if only one hill is being
assaulted. Be sure to bring up d'Aubreme's brigade as soon
as it's available in order to deny the French from gaining a
victory site -- or to counterattack, as necessary.
FRENCH STRATEGY TIPS
The French guard needs to take or contest at least one
victory point site from the British (^5here^ or ^7here^). They have
to march up one or both of the hills and slug away. It won't
be easy unless the British are careless about Donop's
French cavalry. If Donop is used successfully, the French
can gain a good hilltop position and keep d'Aubreme's fresh
troops from retaking the objective. Another consideration is
Petit, whose brigade of "Grognards" becomes available as a
reinforcement, but these troops are very expensive and the
French had better control one of the big objective sites in
order to justify releasing Petit's troops.
