  12. Microsoft Windows 98 documentation.

  14. The Windows 98 Year 2000 Update provides Windows 98 updates to resolve 
  15. known year 2000 issues with the Windows 98 operating system.

  17. For current year 2000 information regarding Microsoft products, visit 
  18. the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/year2000 or call 
  19. 1-888-MSFT-Y2K or contact your local Microsoft subsidiary. 
  20. Such information is generally available to all Microsoft customers for 
  21. the sole purpose of assisting the planning for the transition to the 
  22. year 2000. This document contains the information currently available 
  23. concerning the date-handling behavior of Microsoft's products and is

  52. A. System Requirements
  53.    You need 20 MB free disk space to install the Windows 98
  54.    Year 2000 Update.
  55.  
  56. B. Downloading and Extracting the Windows 98 Year 2000 Update
  57.    If you download the update from the Web site, be sure to read the 
  58.    release notes completely before you extract and install the 
  59.    Windows 98 Year 2000 Update.

  61.    After you download the Update, a compressed executable file called 
  62.    Q234680.exe appears on your hard drive. This executable file contains 
  63.    the files you need to update your system for the year 2000.

  65.    >>> To extract the file and install the year 2000 updates:
  66.    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  67.    2. In the Run dialog box, click Browse.
  68.    3. Locate the Q23460.exe file on your hard drive.
  69.    4. Click Open, and then click OK.
  70.    5. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

  72.    This Year 2000 Update is for Windows 98 Gold and is a supplement to IE401.SP2. 
  73.    This Update is not intended for use on and will not install on computers running 
  74.    Windows 95, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows NT, or Windows 2000.
  75.    For international versions of Windows 98, download and install the
  76.    appropriate language version for your location.

  78. C. Before You Install the Windows 98 Year 2000 Update
  79.    Because the Windows 98 Year 2000 Update updates your system files 
  80.    and requires you to restart your computer during installation, you 
  81.    should save and close all open documents and close all programs 
  82.    before installing the Update.

  84. D. Useful Switches
  85.    There are several installation options available to advanced users 
  86.    when installing the Windows 98 Year 2000 Update. You can view these
  87.    options at any time by clicking Start, clicking Run, typing 
  88.    q234680.exe /? and then clicking OK.

  90.    To use the optional installation parameters below, type
  91.    q234680.exe <option>
  92.  
  93.    /Q - Quiet mode (skips all user prompts) - Useful for silent 
  94.         installations in batch setups.
  95.    /T: <full path> - Specifies a temporary working folder.
  96.    /C - Extract files only to the folder when used also with /T - 
  97.         Allows an administrator to download files into a specified 
  98.         location.
  99.    /C: <cmd> - Override install command defined by author - Not used 
  100.         for this update.

  105. If You Reinstall Windows 98
  106. If you have to reinstall the Windows 98 operating system, you will 
  107. lose the benefits of the Windows 98 Year 2000 Update installation. 
  108. Any time you have to reinstall Windows 98, run the Windows 98 Year 
  109. 2000 Update installation again.
