EZ-PGP Version 1.0 Beta Release 1
By TNG Lover: tnglover@netnet.net
DOCUMENTATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------
OK, since this is a beta release, you won't see any huge
explanations for each command, but you will find documentation
good enough so you can actually use it. Be sure you have read
all of README.TXT before you start.
Command Explanations:
1 - PGP asks for a key size. If you believe that PGP is already
a safe program, select 1. If you are very security paranoid,
select 3. Next PGP asks for a user ID. Enter your name or
internet ID, followed by your e-mail address in brackets.
Example: John Doe <jdoe@netnet.net>. Next PGP will ask for a
pass phrase. Enter a phrase that only you would know. Then
enter the phrase again to confirm you entered the right phrase.
Now you can just start tryping characters until the counter
reaches 0. Next just sit back and relax until PGP finishes
making your key pair.
2 - Enter your username, or enough to distinguish it from another
key on you ring (ONE WORD ONLY). Then type in the filename you
want the key to be extracted to (an extension of .asc is
recommended). That key will be placed in the KEYS\ directory.
Now you are ready to distribute your key.
3 - Enter the filename of the key to be added to the keyring
(located in the KEYS\ directory). IF PGP finds new key(s) in the
file, it will ask if you want to certify the keys yourself. If
you know what PGP is talking about, go ahead and hit Y, else hit
N.
4 - No explanation here. It displays a list of keys in your
ring.
5 - Enter a one-word portion of the key you want to remove. If
PGP finds a key containing that string, it will confirm deleting
it. If you are sure you want to delete it, hit Y, else hit N.
6 - Enter the filename of the plain ASCII file you want to edit
(put a message in). It should have an extension .TXT, and both
the ASCII and the encrypted file will be placed in the MSGS\
directory. THen enter the user name(s) of the person/persons you
want to address the encrypted file to. Next the MS-DOS editor
will be run. Type in your message, then go to file|save. Then
go file|exit to leave. Next PGP will confirm that you want to
send the file to the selected person(s). Hit Y. Now your
encrypted file is ready. It has the entension .ASC and is in the
MSGS\ directory. Send it to your person.
7 - First place the encrypted file in the MSGS\ directory. Use
the 7 command. Enter the name of that file you just placed. Now
PGP will ask for your pass Phrase. Enter it and press ENTER.
Now the file is decrypted. The output file has no extension.
8 - You exit.
I'm sorry for the shortage of technical explanations and all that
stuff, but this is a beta version. E-mail me at
