  2. NDIS 2.01 Drivers Installation Notes

  4. Preliminary Banyan VINES Installations
  5. --------------------------------------
  6. The Banyan VINES LAN software installation requires 
  7. that you input the IRQ assigned to the adapter.
  8.  
  9. To determine the IRQ, perform the following steps:
  10.  
  11. 1.  Insert the 3Com Fast Etherlink/EtherLink III Bus Master Etherdisk 
  12.     diskette in the floppy drive and make that the active drive.
  13.  
  14. 2.  At the DOS prompt type:
  15.      3C59XCFG [Enter]
  16.  
  17. 3.  When the main menu appears, select Adapter Configuration 
  18.     and press [Enter]
  19.  
  20. 4.  The Adapter Configuration screen appears with 
  21.     the IRQ shown in the Standard Options box.
  22.  
  23.  Banyan VINES Installations
  24.  --------------------------
  25.  
  26.  To install VINES 6.0 software on a DOS NDIS 
  27.  workstation, follow these instructions.  DOS 
  28.  must be installed on the target workstation 
  29.  C: drive, or you must have a bootable DOS floppy.
  30.  
  31.  1.  Use the DOS MD command to create a subdirectory 
  32.      called \VINES.
  33.  
  34.  2.  Copy the contents of the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 
  35.      Install diskette into the \VINES subdirectory.
  36.  
  37.  3.  Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on 
  38.      the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 2 of 2 diskette into 
  39.      the \VINES subdirectory.
  40.  
  41.  4.  Copy the EL59X.DOS and the PROTOCOL.INI fragment 
  42.      from the NDIS\DOS subdirectory on the EtherDisk 
  43.      diskette to the \VINES subdirectory.
  44.  
  45.  5.  Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to read as follows:
  46.  
  47.      [PROTOCOL MANAGER]
  48.       DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
  49.  
  50.      [VINES_XIF]
  51.       DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$
  52.       BINDINGS = EL59X
  53.  
  54.      [EL59X]
  55.       DRIVERNAME = EL59X$
  56.  
  57.  6.  Run the PCCONFIG.EXE program located in the \VINES subdirectory.
  58.                                                          
  59.  7.  Select option 1, Netword Card Settings.
  60.  
  61.  8.  Select the NDIS Ethernet option.
  62.  
  63.  9.  The NDIS workstation screen appears. Enter the interrupt request 
  64.      number (IRQ) you selected for the 3Com Fast Etherlink/EtherLink III 
  65.      Bus Master adapter. 
  66.  
  67. 10.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following 
  68.      lines, substituting A: for C: for a floppy 
  69.      disk installation.

  71.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES
  72.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\EL59X.DOS
  73.  
  74. 11. Insert the following lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  75.  
  76.      CD \VINES
  77.      BAN
  78.      
  79.      BAN loads the NDISBAN drivers and reads the PCCONFIG.DB 
  80.      file to invoke changes made during the PCCONFIG stage.
