  5. NOVELL NETWARE 32-bit Drivers
  6. This document describes how to configure the 3C589D PC Card for 
  7. use with the Novell NetWare 32-bit drivers. These procedures are
  8. also described in the EtherLink III LAN PC Card User Guide.
  9. You can install the NetWare 32-bit driver for clients and servers. 
  10. The 32-bit network driver only works in a PC with Client 32 software 
  11. installed on it. The drivers are in the \CLIENT32 directory on the 
  12. EtherDisk diskette.
  13.

  15. NOTE: The following instructions assume that you have not
  16.       installed any other network adapter in the machine. If you
  17.       have been using a network connection on your PC,
  18.       some of the following instructions may not apply or may
  19.       produce different results. Contact  your MIS department
  20.       or network manager for further instructions.
  21.  
  22. Before installing the network driver, you should know:
  23.  
  24.       - Your Novell file server name
  25.       - Your network account user name and password (supplied
  26.         by your MIS department or network manager)
  27.  
  28. Also, for a successful installation, you will need:
  29.  
  30. - 3C589D LAN PC Card and the accompanying EtherDisk
  31.         diskette
  32.         
  33.  
  34. Windows 95 without Client 32 Installed
  35. To install the driver in a PC without Client 32 installed, 
  36. perform the following steps:
  37.  
  38.   1. Install the 3C589D PC Card and connect it 
  39.      to the network, as described in Chapter 2.
  40.  
  41.   2. Copy the ODI3C589.INF file from the \client 
  42.      directory on the EtherDisk diskette to disk 1(setup) 
  43.      of the Client 32 for Windows 95 software.
  44.  
  45.   3. Copy the 3C589.LAN driver to the LAN 
  46.      driver diskette (32 bit). 
  47.  
  48.   4. Install Client 32 according to 
  49.      Novell's Client 32 documentation. 
  50.      The driver installation is complete.

  53. Windows 95 without Client 32 Installed using
  54. the Hard Drive or the Network
  55.  
  56. To install the driver on a PC, using the network or 
  57. hard drive without Client 32 installed, perform the 
  58. following steps:
  59.  
  60.   1. Install the 3C589D PC Card and connect it to the 
  61.      network, as described in Chapter 2.
  62.  
  63.   2. Copy the ODI3C589.INF file and the 3C589.LAN 
  64.      driver to the \PUBLIC\CLIENT\WIN95\IBM_ENU directory. 
  65.  
  66.   3. Install Client 32 according to Novell's Client 32
  67.      documentation.  The driver installation is complete.
  68.  
  69. Windows 95 with Client 32 Installed
  70. To install the driver on a PC, using the network or 
  71. hard drive without Client 32 installed, perform 
  72. the following steps:
  73.  
  74.   1. Remove adapters from the Network control panel 
  75.      for any cards that are no longer in the PC or are 
  76.      going to be removed including ODINSUP and 
  77.      any associated files. 
  78.  
  79.   2. Copy the ODI3C589.INF file for the new 
  80.      PC Card into the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. 
  81.  
  82.   3. Switch to the Windows\INF directory.
  83.  
  84.   4. Rename NET3COM.INF to NET3COM.OLD.
  85.  
  86.   5. Reboot your PC.
  87.  
  88.   6. Install the 3C589D PC Card and connect it to the 
  89.      network as described in Chapter 2 and reboot your PC.
  90.  
  91.      Windows 95 automatically detects the PC Card. 
  92.      The Client 32 driver is loaded. 
  93.      You are prompted for Client 32 diskettes. 
  94.  
  95.   7. Complete the Client 32 installation and reboot the PC. 
  96.      The driver installation is complete.

  98.  
  99. DOS Client 32 
  100. To install the driver on a PC running DOS or 
  101. Windows 3.x, without Client 32 installed, 
  102. perform the following steps:
  103.  
  104.   1. Copy the 3C589mgr.exe from the EtherDisk to C:\.
  105.  
  106.   2. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to 
  107.      add the following line to the beginning of the file.
  108.      C:\3C589MGR.EXE
  109.  
  110.   3. Run 3c589MGR.exe and write down the IRQ and 
  111.      PORT settings. 
  112.  
  113.   4. Start the Client 32 installation using
  114.      the Client 32 NetWare documentation.  
  115.  
  116.   5. When prompted for Disk 5 -LAN DRIVER or 
  117.      Third Party Diskette,insert the Etherdisk and give
  118.      the path A:\CLIENT32
  119.  
  120.      When the Client32 installation is complete reboot the PC. 
  121.  
  122.   6. On some laptops a special switch is needed when loading
  123.      the LAN driver in the STARTNET.BAT file.  If the LAN driver
  124.      does not successfully load, Edit the STARTNET.BAT file and
  125.      verify that the 3c589.Lan line looks similar to:
  126.      load c:\novell\client32\3c589.lan enabler port=X irq=Y Frame=ZZZ
  127.      Where X=the IRQ and Y=the Port as specified by 3c589mgr.exe.

  129.      The driver installation is complete.

  131. NetWare 4.11 32-bit Server
  132. Make sure DOS Card Services is installed on your PC.
  133. To install the driver on a NetWare 4.11, perform the following steps:
  134.  
  135.   1. Install the 3C589D PC Card and connect it to the 
  136.      network as described in Chapter 2.
  137.  
  138.   2. Insert the EtherDisk diskette in the diskette drive.
  139.  
  140.   3. Copy 3C589MGR.EXE and 3C589.LAN 
  141.      from the EtherDisk diskette to c:\nwserver. 
  142.  
  143.   4. Add the 3c589mgr.exe and the 3c589.lan 
  144.      to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file and save.
  145.      3C589MGR.EXE
  146.      load 3c589.LAN SLOT=X frame =XXXX
  147.      bind 3c589 IPX NET=XXX
  148.      The driver installation is complete.

  150. *Note: Although the 3C589.LAN driver is a fully supported driver by 
  151. Novell, some laptop keyboard implementations may not allow you to 
  152. break into the Novell debugger.
