  12. The packages now have a build  number, which is stored in the  file
  13. BUILD.DAT. In addition to a package number and the date, this  file
  14. contains some  version information  and the  package language.  The
  15. build number is increased with every new package. The programs  now
  16. display the build number in  the window "About AntiVir" and  in the
  17. logfiles.

  20. AntiVir for Windows 9x/Me
  21. -------------------------
  22. Up to  now, the  AntiVir Guard  for Windows  9x/Me always displayed
  23. alerts on messages concerning  viruses and unwanted programs  via a
  24. screen  in  text  mode  ("blue  screen").  The  AntiVir  Guard  now
  25. generally carries out the standard action (normally "Deny  access")
  26. and then displays  a normal Windows  dialog with the  inquiry as to
  27. whether further  actions are  to be  carried out  with the file and
  28. which ones, e.g. delete, rename, repair, move. The "Repair"  option
  29. was removed from the "Search" tab, as it is no longer required  due
  30. to  conversion  of the  AntiVir  Guard. In  the  "Action" tab,  the
  31. selection "Actions if file  not repaired" was renamed  as "Handling
  32. concerning  files"  and converted  to  a drop-down  list.  Here the
  33. "Repair" option removed under "Search" can also be selected again.

  36. AntiVir for Windows XP (2000 + NT)
  37. ----------------------------------
  38. Separation  of  the  device  driver  on  the  NT-platform  into two
  39. platform-dependent  drivers:  one  version for  Windows NT  and one
  40. version for Windows 2000 and XP. With this separation, the extended
  41. possibilities of Windows 2000 and  XP can be better supported.  The
  42. driver for 2000/XP was renamed from avgntdd.sys to avgntdw.sys. The
  43. name of the driver for NT remains the same.

  45. AntiVir  Windows  Workstation  now  supports  designs  (themes)  of
  46. Windows  XP.   This  means   that  when   switching  to   different
  47. colors/display  forms of  Windows XP,  all AntiVir  programs  adapt
  48. their dialogs and the associated controls accordingly.

  64. To install the application  please start the  relevant  application
  65. (SETUP.EXE or AVWINSFX.EXE ) and follow the instructions.

  71. With version 6.26 we changed the communication protocol between the
  72. AntiVir Guard Control Program (red umbrella) and the AntiVir  Guard
  73. service to TCP/IP under Windows  NT, 2000 and XP. Please  note that
  74. the  Control Program  communicates only  with the  local system  at
  75. 127.0.0.1 (localhost)  and NOT  with the  Internet. If  you have  a
  76. Personal Firewall like Kerio, Outpost, ZoneAlarm or Norton Internet
  77. Security  installed,  this  tool  might  issue  a  warning  message
  78. regarding a connection request of AVGNT.EXE (connection request  to
  79. port 18350) and  an 'act as  server' request of  AVGUARD.EXE to the
  80. same port.  Please make  sure that  your firewall  in is  'learning
  81. mode' and that you allow this actions of AntiVir. It might be  also
  82. a good idea to select the option 'remeber this answer and don't ask
  83. me again'.

  86. If problems  occur with  the display  of the  interface in the main
  87. window   AntiVir  for   Windows  under   Windows  NT   (transparent
  88. background),  the update  file 50COMUPD.EXE  of Microsoft  must  be
  89. started. This file can be found on the Internet under:
