  4. ExamDiff is a freeware Windows tool for visual file 
  5. comparison. It has a number of simple and convenient 
  6. features that many users have been asking for a long time 
  7. from a file comparison tool.
  8.  
  9. -Remembers a user specified number of last compared first 
  10.  and second files. This allows quick selection of the two 
  11.  files the user wishes to compare. 
  12.  
  13. -There is no need to specify both filenames -- just enter
  14.  a directory name for one of the files to be compared. 
  15.  EximDiff will try to use an entered filename with a 
  16.  specified directory name.
  17.  
  18. -Toggles between the first and second files.
  19.  
  20. -Automatically detects file changes and prompts the user 
  21.  to re-compare files.
  22.  
  23. -One push re-compare function which attempts to leave the 
  24.  viewer's focus in the same place as before the re-compare.

  26. -Drag and drop support for dropping one or two files into 
  27.  the program's window (e.g. from Windows Explorer).

  29. -Easy editing of the first and second files. ExamDiff will 
  30.  spawn any editor (configurable by the user) with the first 
  31.  or second file, and line number option (available for
  32.  editors that support this, through ExamDiff variables: 
  33.  $FILE (first or second file name), $CURFIFF (number of 
  34.  line at which the current difference starts), and 
  35.  $CARET (number of line where the caret is located)).

  37. -Saves the file differences in a standard UNIX DIFF file.

  39. -Easy navigation through the differences via "Next 
  40.  Difference"/"Current Difference"/"Previous Difference" 
  41.  buttons and hot keys or via a list box of all the differences.

  43. -Allows the copying of text from the comparison panes via 
  44.  drag and drop, a hot key, or a right button pop up.

  46. -Simple "Search" command to search for strings in the 
  47.  comparison panes. It also remembers a user    specified 
  48.  number of most recent searches.

  50. -Customizable text and background colors, font, tab size, 
  51.  and "Show Differences Only" option as well as options to 
  52.  "Ignore white spaces in lines", "Ignore changes in amount of 
  53.  white spaces in lines", "Ignore case",  "Treat files as text 
  54.  files", "Ignore leading white space in lines" and 
  55.  "Ignore trailing white space in lines" for comparison.

  57. -Fully customizable file extension filter. For example, the 
  58.  user can choose only .c and .cpp files or any other files 
  59.  he/she chooses to be displayed.

  61. -Tooltips which include file properties (when the mouse 
  62.  cursor is placed over the pane title bars), difference 
  63.  number (when the cursor is over the yellow triangle marking
  64.  the current difference), and etc.

  66. -Adjustable pane splitter with smooth synchronized scrolling.
  67.  Allows easy toggling between horizontal and vertical splitter 
  68.  orientation as well as splitter centering and panes hiding.

  71.     Usage: ExamDiff [Filename1] [Filename2] [Options]
  72.        Filename1, Filename2 are names of files to be compared
  73.        Options are any of:
  74.           /i    ignore case
  75.           /w    ignore all white space in lines
  76.           /b    ignore changes in amount of white space in lines
  77.           /l    ignore leading white space in lines
  78.           /e    ignore trailing white space in lines
  79.           /t    treat both files as text files
  80.           /d    show differences only
  81.           /n    don't show initial "Compare Files" dialog
  82.           /sd   always show initial "Compare" dialog, even if 
  83.                 two filenames are used
  84.           /aN   scroll trough all differences with N second delay 
  85.                 and exit after the last difference
  86.           /?,/h print this screen
  87.        NOTE: if options /i, /w, /b, /l, /e, /t, or /d are not set, 
  88.              the last used options remain in effect.
