  6.    Version 3.20
  7.  
  8.    1. Previous WinRAR and RAR versions stored only the file modification
  9.       time and only in DOS FAT format with 2 seconds precision.
  10.       While it was enough for FAT, modern file systems provide a higher
  11.       precision. Now RAR format can preserve modification, creation and
  12.       last access time with the precision up to 0.0000001 second.
  13.       The following changes had been done to support this facility:
  14.  
  15.       a) new "Time" part of archiving dialog includes "File time to store"
  16.          options controlling file time processing. Other time related
  17.          options also had been moved from "Backup" to "Time" section;
  18.  
  19.       b) new "Advanced" part of extraction dialog contains "File time"
  20.          options allowing to select time fields to restore;
  21.  
  22.       c) command line -ts<m,c,a> switch chooses time fields to process
  23.          and precision of these fields;
  24.  
  25.       Time precision provided by ZIP format is not changed and equal
  26.       to 2 seconds.

  28.    2. Changes in the extraction dialog:
  29.  
  30.       a) extraction dialog has been split to "General" and "Advanced"
  31.          parts;
  32.  
  33.       b) "Display files in Explorer" option in "General" part instructs
  34.          WinRAR to open Explorer window and display contents of
  35.          destination folder when extraction is done;
  36.  
  37.       c) "Save settings" button saves the current state of both parts
  38.          ("General" and "Advanced"). Saved state will be used as
  39.          the default when activating the dialog next time. WinRAR saves
  40.          all options except the destination path;
  41.  
  42.       d) "Advanced" part includes "File time" options allowing to
  43.          select time fields to restore;
  44.  
  45.       e) new "Set file security" option in "Advanced" part controls
  46.          restoring of NTFS file security information. Previous versions
  47.          always extracted this information.
  48.  
  49.    3. It is possible to rename files inside of RAR archives.
  50.       It can be done either with "Rename file" command in "Commands"
  51.       menu or in the context menu displaying on the right mouse click.
  52.       In the command line mode you may use 'rn' command for this
  53.       purpose.
  54.  
  55.    4. "Next volume" dialog allows to choose the disk or folder for
  56.       a new volume. WinRAR displays this dialog when creating volumes
  57.       on removable disks or if "Pause after each volume" option
  58.       is switched on. Previous versions did not allow to modify
  59.       the volume name here.
  60.  
  61.    5. "Test" and "Convert" commands can be applied to archives
  62.       directly from Explorer context menu. By default these menu
  63.       items are disabled, but you may enable them in WinRAR
  64.       "Settings/Integration/Context menu items..." dialog.
  65.  
  66.    6. "Pause" item added to context menu displayed on the right mouse
  67.       button click on WinRAR tray icon. So you may pause WinRAR minimized
  68.       to tray and continue it without restoring WinRAR to normal window.
  69.  
  70.    7. If one of SFX volumes is missing, SFX archive displays
  71.       "Next volume" dialog proposing to browse for required volume.
  72.  
  73.    8. WinRAR allows to resize the window containing results of "Find"
  74.       command. It saves modified window dimensions and restores them
  75.       when using "Find" next time.
  76.  
  77.    9. Toolbar:
  78.  
  79.       a) "Toolbars..." button in "Settings/General" activates the dialog
  80.          allowing to turn on or off the main WinRAR toolbar, the additional
  81.          small toolbar containing "Up one level" button and the address bar
  82.          with path or archive information;
  83.  
  84.       b) buttons may have a variable width. So few large button titles
  85.          in localized versions will not increase the total toolbar size
  86.          too much like it happened before;
  87.  
  88.       c) if the width of buttons exceeds the width of toolbar,
  89.          you may click on the small arrow at the right side of toolbar
  90.          and choose hidden buttons from the menu.
  91.  
  92.   10. Console RAR 'lb' and 'vb' commands list contents of archive
  93.       in the bare mode - file names without any additional information.
  94.  
  95.   11. WinRAR recognizes one more tar long file name extension
  96.       designed to overcome 100 characters file name limit in tar archives.
  97.  
  98.   12. Gzip archives contained zero in the file time field are processed
  99.       correctly. Previous versions could display random date values
  100.       for such archives.
  101.  
  102.   13. Recovery volumes:
  103.  
  104.       a) when creating recovery volumes, the required disk space
  105.          is preallocated in the beginning of operation. It helps to
  106.          minimize the disk fragmentation;
  107.  
  108.       b) console RAR displays the operation percentage when creating
  109.          recovery volumes or reconstructing missing or corrupt volumes.
  110.  
  111.   14. If "Save file security" option is enabled, folders will be
  112.       archived after files which they contain. It is necessary to avoid
  113.       the situation when security attributes of just unpacked folder
  114.       do not allow to extract files to it.
  115.  
  116.   15. Optional description can be entered in "Add to favorite" dialog.
  117.       If such description is available, WinRAR will display it
  118.       in "Favorites" menu instead of folder or archive name.

  123.    1. "Convert" command is able to process .tgz archives.
  124.  
  125.    2. GUI SFX modules provide more detailed diagnostic messages
  126.       for CRC errors or file create errors.

  128.    3. Command line RAR returns the exit code 9 in case of file
  129.       create errors.
  130.  
  131.    4. Bugs fixed:
  132.  
  133.       a) "Convert" command failed to convert archives in folders
  134.          with non-English (high ASCII) names;
  135.  
  136.       b) WinRAR could crash when attempting to display too long
  137.          file type inside of archive;
  138.  
  139.       c) -ag command line switch placed an incorrect value to minutes
  140.          field;
  141.  
  142.       d) options "Put each file to separate archive" and "Turn PC off
  143.          when done", if set together, switched the computer off after
  144.          creating the first archive;
  145.  
  146.       e) SFX module could display unnecessary "http-equiv ..." string
  147.          when started under Windows 95.

  150.    Version 3.10
  151.  
  152.    1. New "Find" command allows to search for text string in archives
  153.       and usual files.
  154.  
  155.       Its command line equivalent is 'i' command.
  156.  
  157.    2. New "Convert" command converts archives from one format to other.
  158.       It can process a single archive or several selected archives
  159.       at once. It is possible to select file folders to convert their
  160.       contents.
  161.  
  162.    3. Repair command:
  163.  
  164.       a) "Repair" is able to correct data erasure and insertion
  165.          errors in RAR archives containing the recovery record.
  166.          Earlier it was possible to fix only those errors, when
  167.          an archive size was not changed;
  168.  
  169.       b) "Repair" uses fixed.arcname.rar and rebuilt.arcname.rar
  170.          names for repaired archives, where 'arcname' is the name of
  171.          original archive. Previous versions used _recover.rar
  172.          and _reconst.rar names;
  173.  
  174.       c) It is possible to select several archives in WinRAR shell
  175.          and repair them at once;
  176.  
  177.       d) 'R' command accepts wildcards in the archive name to repair
  178.          several archives at once.
  179.  
  180.    4. Recovery volumes:
  181.  
  182.       a) WinRAR attempts to reconstruct both missing and damaged
  183.          volumes. Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed
  184.          to *.bad. Previous version was able to reconstruct only
  185.          missing volumes;
  186.  
  187.       b) WinRAR automatically detects corrupt recovery volumes
  188.          and ignores them;
  189.  
  190.       c) Recovery volumes naming scheme changed from <name>N1_N2_N3.rev
  191.          to less complicated <name>N.rev, where 'N' is the number of
  192.          volume. Old style recovery volumes are also recognized and
  193.          supported;
  194.  
  195.       d) WinRAR displays the progress bar while reconstructing volumes.
  196.  
  197.    5. SFX modules:
  198.  
  199.       a) Start and License SFX dialogs had been redesigned;
  200.  
  201.       b) SFX provides fully functional HTML support in "Text" command.
  202.          Earlier versions supported only very limited set of HTML tags;
  203.  
  204.       c) "SavePath" SFX script command and "Save and restore paths"
  205.          option in "Advanced SFX settings" allow to save the destination
  206.          path entered by user in Registry and then restore it when
  207.          executing SFX archive next time.
  208.  
  209.    6. Compression improved when adding small text files to already
  210.       existing archive using "Best" (-m5) or "Forced text" (-mct+) modes.
  211.  
  212.    7. "Flat folders view" command in "Options/File list" menu switches
  213.       between the classic tree style view and flat view, when all archived
  214.       files and folders are displayed in the same list.
  215.  
  216.    8. Option "Turn PC off when done" in "Advanced" part of archiving
  217.       dialog and command line switch -ioff turn a computer off after
  218.       completing an operation. Hardware must support the power off feature.
  219.  
  220.    9. Sizes of ZIP-100, CD-650MB and CD-700MB disks are added
  221.       to predefined values in the volume size list in archiving dialog.
  222.  
  223.   10. New command line switch -iicon<name> specifies an icon to use
  224.       in SFX archive created or updated by WinRAR. This switch is
  225.       supported only by WinRAR, console RAR does not recognize it.
  226.  
  227.   11. Now WinRAR opens tar.gz and tar.bz2 archives in one step,
  228.       so users do not need to unpack .tar manually.
  229.       WinRAR does not store temporary .tar files on the disk,
  230.       all required operations are performed directly in memory.
  231.  
  232.   12. WinRAR is able to decompress multipart ZIP archives
  233.       (.zip, .z01, .z02, ...).
  234.  
  235.   13. New 'N' (archive number) modifier for -ag switch and
  236.       "Generate archive name by mask" backup option of archiving dialog.
  237.  
  238.       WinRAR searches for already existing archive with a generated name
  239.       and if it is found, increments the archive number until generating
  240.       a unique name. For example, if you use -agyymmdd-nn several
  241.       times in the same day, every new archive name will include a new
  242.       increasing number.
  243.  
  244.   14. If rarfiles.lst contains such two masks that all files matched
  245.       by one mask are also matched by other, that mask which matches
  246.       a smaller subset of file names will have higher priority regardless
  247.       of its position in the list. For example, in case of *.cpp and
  248.       f*.cpp masks, f*.cpp has higher priority.

  250.   15. WinRAR displays CRC16 column inside of LZH archives.
  251.  
  252.   16. It is possible to disable the main menu and settings dialog
  253.       using "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WinRAR\Policy" or
  254.       "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinRAR\Policy" Registry key.
  255.       This feature may help to preserve WinRAR settings in multiuser
