  9. Cobian Backup is a multi-threaded program you can use to backup your 
  10. files and directories from their original location to other 
  11. directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your 
  12. network. Cobian Backup exists in two different versions: application
  13. and service.
  14.  
  15. You can automatically backup your files once, daily, weekly, monthly, 
  16. or on a timer basis. 
  17. You can also save and open lists with different backup file sets. 
  18. The program creates a log file which optionally can be mailed to you
  19. automatically.
  20. Cobian Backup can be used as an application (Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP)
  21. or as a windows service (Windows NT/2000/XP). 
  22. Cobian Backup has integrated compression capabilities, using
  23. the standard Zip algorithm. All the functions in the program can 
  24. optionally be password protected.
  25. Backup to a FTP server is possible.

  27. Install and uninstall
  28.  
  29. Important: running under NT/2000/XP, you must have administrative 
  30. privileges. If you have an old version of the program running NEVER INSTALL the
  31. new version into the old version's directory.

  33. To properly install Cobian Backup, simply run the Cb5Setup.exe program. 
  34. Choose a directory to install, for example C:\Cobian Backup and select 
  35. the installation mode:
  36.  
  37. As a service: If you are running in NT/2000/XP, this option will be 
  38. enabled and the recommended one. You will be prompted if you want to 
  39. run the service under the system account or other account. If you are 
  40. accessing network resources, you cannot run the service under the 
  41. system account. Read more about this in the help file.

  43. As an application, autostart for any user: this option installs the 
  44. program as an application, and starts it automatically when any user 
  45. logs on.

  47. As an application, autostart the current user: option installs the
  48. program as an application, and starts it automatically when the current 
  49. user logs on.

  51. As an application, no autostart: The application must be manually 
  52. started from the icon in the start- menu. 
  53.  
  54. You may need to restart the computer after the installation is completed.

  56. To uninstall the program, go to the Control panel- Add/delete program 
  57. and select Cobian backup.

  59. Cobian Backup is Freeware. You are allowed to copy, use and distribute 
  60. the program, but only in the original package (file Cb5Setup.exe).
