  1. The AVIFile handler included with VirtualDub 1.3b is capable
  2. of running in Proxy mode -- that is, you can install it as the
  3. *default* handler for AVI files, and it will work with signposts
  4. that are renamed to the AVI extension.  This means that
  5. applications which previously failed with the AVIFile handler
  6. because of the .VDR extension can now be used, provided that
  7. the .VDR files are renamed to the .AVI extension.

  9. This support is very experimental, so try at your own risk.

  11. To try the AVIFile proxy support, first use auxsetup.exe to
  12. install AVIFile frameserver support, then use the REGEDIT tool
  13. to install the proxyon.reg file.  Use the proxyoff.reg file
  14. to disable it.

  16. The proxy support will be invisible to most programs, but some
  17. programs do not like the proxy handler and will no longer work
  18. if it is installed; you will have to disable the proxy for
  19. these programs.  These applications were tested:

  21. Ligos LSX-MPEG Encoder 3.0:    works
  22. Panasonic MPEG Encoder 2.30:    works most of the time
  23. XingMPEG Encoder 2.20:        fails (must deinstall proxy)
