  26. DESCRIPTION:
  27. Send and Receive fax from Single computer or Network. FaxMail will add a
  28. [FaxBar] to your Windows Programs, giving you access to all the FaxModems
  29. and FaxMachines in the world, making them become your printers. FaxMail
  30. attaches itself to and becomes a part of the actual Microsoft Windows
  31. environment, thereby adding its features to all Windows Applications.
  32. FaxMail has hundreds of useful features such as Dynamic View/Edit Cover
  33. Page, FaxBook Import/Export, Windows Dynamic All Class FaxModem Driver,
  34. and Technical Support. You can import up to 1000 name and phone numbers
  35. into each FaxBook (Phone Book) at a time from any xBase data base program,
  36. and you can have as many FaxBooks as you want. FaxMail gives you laser
  37. quality fax output, making it a great tool to send an occasional fax or
  38. large numbers of high quality faxes from the background while you work on
  39. other tasks. FaxMail bundles the most useful fax features, and it is fast!
  40. The simplicity of information transfer via FaxMail Network for Windows is
  41. unequaled. It is a faxmail management system, integrating FaxModem
  42. technologies into computer document generation. You can create very short
  43. and/or long faxes. FaxMail supports Microsoft Windows

  49. Workstation 1 must have a modem and access to the root of a common server
  50. drive. All other workstations must have access to the root of that same
  51. common server drive. Workstation 1 receives all fax and can route them to
  52. the in-boxes of the other workstations. All workstations put their
  53. outgoing faxes in the queue of workstation 1.

  142. LIMITATIONS:
  143. You can try FaxMail before you buy it. If you want to continue using this
  144. software after trying it, you must purchase it by registering it with
  145. ElectraSoft. This means you have a chance to test the performance of
  146. FaxMail before committing yourself to buying it. Before paying, you will
  147. only be able to send to a limited number of recipients in each batch of
  148. faxes you send, and an advertisement header will be added to each fax.
  149. After you pay ElectraSoft for the use of FaxMail, you will be able to send
  150. to as many recipients as you like (999 per batch), and without any added
  151. advertisement.

  155. We are working full time on improving and upgrading FaxMail Network for
  156. Windows based upon the feedback from you and other users. So...before you
  157. install, look at the date on this file. If the date is more than a week
  158. old, you may want to get the latest version.

  179. FaxAmatic is ElectraSoft's newest and best fax program. Whether you are
  180. using a single computer and modem or on a network with multiple modems,
  181. FaxAmatic is your best choose. Many companies have large networks with
  182. Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP users as clients and several modems. They can
  183. use FaxAmatic. FaxAmatic is compiled with MSVC60 (Microsoft Visual C++
  184. version 6.0) and is 32bit. MSVC60 does not support Win32s, so FaxAmatic
  185. will not work on WFWG or Windows 3.xx with Win32s. FaxAmatic will be
  186. taking advantage of features that are not available using MSVC20.

  190. If you are using a single computer or on a network, 32bit Fax is a good
  191. choice. Many companies have large networks with Windows
  192. 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP users as clients. They can use 32bit Fax. 32bit Fax is
  193. compiled with MSVC60 (Microsoft Visual C++ version 6.0) and is 32bit.
  194. MSVC60 does not support Win32s, so 32bit Fax will not work on WFWG or
  195. Windows 3.xx with Win32s. 32bit Fax will be taking advantage of features
  196. that are not available using MSVC20.

  200. Is the same as 32bit Fax except that it is compiled with MSVC20 (Microsoft
  201. Visual C++ version 2.0) and is 32bit. It not only runs on Windows
  202. 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP but also runs on 3.xx with Win32s. Many companies have
  203. large networks with WFWGs as clients. They need FaxMail Network for
  204. Windows.

  208. If you are using a single computer and single modem on Windows version
  209. 3.1, before 1995. Compiled with C7.00 (Microsoft C/C++ version 7.0) and is
  210. 16bit. It runs on Windows 3.1x/95/98/ME but not on Windows NT/2000/XP.

  213. LEGAL INFORMATION:
  214. If you have a Registration Code for FaxMail Network for Windows you may
  215. *NOT* share it with others.
  216.  
  217. You can try FaxMail Network for Windows before you buy it. If you want to
  218. continue using this software after trying it, you must purchase it by
  219. registering it with ElectraSoft. This means you have a chance to test the
  220. performance of FaxMail Network for Windows before committing yourself to
  221. buying it.
  222.  
  223. Only the unregistered version of FaxMail Network for Windows may be
  224. distributed freely, and no fee may be charged for it except a nominal
  225. copying fee. All trademarks contained herein are registered to their
  226. respective owners.

  229. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  230. While converting printer output to a fax, FaxMail will need to create and
  231. use a temporary file called [TOFAX] and then delete it when finished. This
  232. file will be in the root of the drive FaxMail is installed on.
  233.  
  234. So that ElectraSoft Print to Fax will be able to convert printable files
  235. to faxes, you may want to check the following three things on the drive
  236. that you installed FaxMail on:
  237.  
  238.  1. If you have the maximum allowed files in that root directory, remove
  239.     some.
  240.  
  241.  2. If you have a directory called TOFAX on that drive, remove it.
  242.  
  243.  3. If that drive is full, make some room. The fax converter needs
  244.     about 200k per page. Keep in mind that Windows itself may need
  245.     5meg+- free on the hard drive.
  246.  
  247. If you are currently using another Modem-Program, remember that they can
  248. not run concurrently on the same COM-Port. Disabling a fax program may
  249. be as easy as not loading it or you may have to remove one or more lines
  250. from your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI. Typing rem
  251. ahead of a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS will disable it.

  259. To disable a line in an *.INI (WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI) file, place a ;

  267. If your old Fax Program loads from the Windows StartUp Group as you enter
  268. Windows, you will have to move it's ICON out of your Windows StartUp Group
  269. by grabbing it and dropping it in another Group.

  274. Run fmnfax.exe, and then read on through [Installation Scenarios].

  277. Make a temporary directory or folder called FMNWTMP. UnZIP fmn.zip into
  278. FMNWTMP Use the Windows run command to run install.exe.

  285.   o You must be Workstation 1.

  343. AFTER INSTALLATION:
  344. After installation, you will have several icons in the FaxMail for
  345. Windows Group. Please note the following icons:
  346.  Manual        (MANUAL.TXT)
  347.  Read Me       (README.TXT)
  348.  Q and A       (Q_A.TXT)
  349.  FaxMail Tutor (FMNWTUTR.WRI)
  350.  FaxMail Help  (FMNW.HLP)
  351. These should be read before using FaxMail Network for Windows. There is
  352. also [Contact-Sensitive Help] buttons, throughout FaxMail Network for
  353. Windows, for your convenience.
  354.  
  355. Everything is explained thoroughly in the FaxMail Network for Windows
  356. help system, which may be called upon from anywhere in FaxMail Network
  357. for Windows.
  358.  
  359. If you want to use FaxMail from within any Windows Application and/or
  360. take advantage of *ALL* the power FaxMail has, load FaxMail from the
  361. FaxMail Network for Windows Group before loading any other Windows
  362. Applications.
  363.  
  364. After the FaxMail program is loaded, click on the [Configure] button and
  365. SetUp and configure things *YOUR WAY*. I suggest that if you are not sure
  366. of something, leave the defaults set as it came to you. Make a printout
  367. of the defaults in case you change something you do not understand yet.
  368.  
  369.  
  370. WINDOWS 95/98/ME:
  371.  
  372. If you are installing on Windows 95/98/ME and after rebooting your
  373. computer the [ElectraSoft Print to Fax] does not show up in the printer
  374. selection list, use the Add Printer ICON as follows:
  375.   o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the Add
  376.      Printer Wizard box will appear.
  377.   o  Click [Next].
  378.   o  Click [(*)Local Printer], [Next] to go to the Printer selection box.
  379.   o  Under [Manufacturer:] select [ElectraSoft].
  380.   o  Under [Printers:] select: [ElectraSoft Print to Fax]
  381.   o  Click [Next] to go to the [Available Port:] selection box.
  382.   o  Select [*]?:\TOFAX Unknown local port. Where the ? is the drive you
  383.      installed the fax program on.
  384.   o  Click [Next].
  385.   o  Click [(*)No], [Next].
  386.   o  Click [(*)Yes], [Next] and wait up to one minute.
  387.   o  When asked [Would you like to start the fax program, click [Yes].
  388.   o  Shortly the ElectraSoft [Send Fax] box will appear.
  389.   o  Click [View Fax] to be sure it worked ok.
  390.   o  When asked [Did the test page print correctly] click [Yes].

  393. WINDOWS 2000:
  394.  
  395. Adding the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] to Windows 2000:
  396.  
  397. During the FaxMail installation, the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  398. ?:\TOFAX port is added to the available Windows Printer Ports. Where the
  399. ? is the drive you installed FaxMail on. However, the ?:\TOFAX port will
  400. not be available until after rebooting the computer. For this reason, the
  401. [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] will be created and added to your available
  402. Printer Drivers in the Printers Group the first time you run FaxMail. If
  403. for some reason the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] is not created, you can
  404. create it yourself using the follow method.
  405.  
  406.   1. Prepare to add the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  407.      o Install FaxMail Network for Windows, using the Windows 2000
  408.        selection.
  409.      o Re-Boot the computer.
  410.      o Log on as Administrator.
  411.  
  412.   2. Use the Add Printer ICON and respond as follows:
  413.      Note: Some of the following lines my be out of sequence, depending
  414.            on the Windows 2000 Build.
  415.      o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the [Welcome
  416.         to the Add Printer Wizard] box will appear.
  417.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Local or Network Printer] box.
  418.         Check (*)Local.
  419.         UnCheck []Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play
  420.         printer.
  421.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Select the Printer Port] box.
  422.         Select [?:\TOFAX Local Port]. Where ? is the HardDrive that you
  423.         installed FaxMail Network for Windows on.
  424.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Manufacturer and Printer] box.
  425.         Click [Have Disk], [Browse], and Locate File,
  426.         ?:\FAXMAILN\ESY2KPRN.INF. Where ? is the HardDrive that you
  427.         installed FaxMail Network for Windows on.
  428.         Select: [ESY2KPRN.INF] (Be sure the .INI extension is included)
  429.         Once back at the Manufacturer and Printer box
  430.         Select: [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  431.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [You must assign a name for this
  432.         printer] box.
  433.         Printer name: [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  434.         Check default printer: (*)No
  435.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Printer Sharing] box.
  436.         Check (*)Do not share this printer
  437.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Print Test Page] box.
  438.         Check (*)Yes
  439.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Completing the Add Printer Wizard] box.
  440.         Click [Finish]
  441.      o  If the [Digital Signature Not Found] box appears, Click [Yes]
  442.      o  The test page should have been printed to the ?:\TOFAX port(file),
  443.         FaxMail Network for Windows should have converted it to a fax, and
  444.         the FaxMail Network for Windows -- Send Fax box should have
  445.         appeared. View the fax. Cancel the Send Fax box.
  446.      o  Click [OK] on the [A test page is being sent to the printer] box
  447.         and the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] ICON will appear in the
  448.         Printers group.

  450.      Note:
  451.       Files used by the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] driver:
  452.       ?:\WINNT\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\2\FM_PN_NT.DLL

  461.   3. Restart your computer as you would after any installation.

  463.   4. To use [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax], load FaxMail Network for
  464.      Windows and run it in background. Load a program and print to the
  465.      [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax].

  477. Adding the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] to Windows NT:

  479. During the FaxMail installation, the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  480. ?:\TOFAX port is added to the available Windows Printer Ports. Where the
  481. ? is the drive you installed FaxMail on. However, the ?:\TOFAX port will
  482. not be available until after rebooting the computer. For this reason, the
  483. [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] will be created and added to your available
  484. Printer Drivers in the Printers Group the first time you run FaxMail. If
  485. for some reason the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] is not created, you can
  486. create it yourself using the follow method.

  489.      file. You can move them into alphabetical if you wish, but it is

  522.         copping fm_pn_nt.dll, NT will try to copy the RASter Devise
  523.         Driver rasdd.dl_ or rasdd.dll, but because rasdd.dl_ is not in
  524.         this directory, a Copy Error box will appear. Place your NT
  525.         installation CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive and click [Browse].
  526.         Browse to your CD-ROM and select: ?:\I386\rasdd.dl_ by
  527.         double-clicking it. rasdd.dl_ is a compressed file that NT will
  528.         expand into RASDD.DLL. Be sure to select rasdd.dl_ and not
  529.         RASDD.DLL! After coping rasdd.dl_, NT will copy several other
  530.         files from that directory.
  531.         Note:
  532.          If you do not have the NT CD-ROM handy, click [Skip] every time
  533.          you are asked for file(s), including the fm_pn_nt.dll file; as
  534.          the files it wants to copy to your HardDrive are probably already

  741. One phone - two phone numbers. Contact your phone company and order
  742. [Distinctive Ring]. Distinctive Ring is another number that rings in on
  743. your same phone, at a very low cost. When someone dials your regular phone
  744. number, you will hear a 3 second RING (long RING) every 6 seconds
  745. start-to-start. When someone (or a fax machine) dials your [Distinctive
  746. Ring] number, you hear 2 short RINGs every 6 seconds start-to-start in the
  747. place of your normal long RING.
  748.  
  749. Be sure you are running a current version [FaxMail Network for Windows]
  750. or [32bit Fax]. Go to the ElectraSoft fax software [Configure], select
  751. [Configure Modem], and set [Type of RINGs to Answer] to [(X)Distinctive
  752. Rings Only]. Give everyone that you want to fax you your [Distinctive
  753. Ring] fax number. Now the fax software will only answer the faxes, and
  754. not interfere with your voice calls. If you also have an answering
  755. machine connected; set the answering machine to answer on RING 3 or above.
  756.  
  757. Solution 2:
  758. Go to the ElectraSoft fax software Setup/Configure and set
  759. [Rings-Until-We-Answer] to [Never]] so the fax software will not answer.
  760. If you answer the phone and find that it is a fax, load the Event Monitor
  761. and click the [Answer Now] button. When you here the modems negotiating,
  762. hang up and let the fax come it.

  764. Solution 3:
  765. To learn about the Supra [Silent Answer] function, go to the www-page
  766. listed below and download FaxMail. Included with it is a README, Q and A,
  767. and Manual the cover this subject in GREAT detail.

  769. Solution 4:
  770. CommShare not only listens for the fax-tone but also for a code that you
  771. can ask the sender to use. This way you do not miss the fax calls from
  772. the 20% of fax machines that do not send the fax-tone:-) I bought a
  773. CommShare at Best Buy.

  776. A modem and phone-line for each function.

  778. Note:
  779. Modems are inexpensive...Get two modems. Run one phone-line from wall to
  780. Fax-Modem's Line-In-Jack, and another phone-line from said Fax-Modem's
  781. Phone-Jack to Email/Data/Etc-Modem's Line-In-Jack.

  784. SILENT ANSWER:
  785. Silent Answer requires the support and cooperation of the remote sending
  786. FaxModem/Machine with your receiving FaxModem. If the sending
  787. FaxModem/Machine does not support [Silent Answer] by sending the [CNG]
  788. tone, you will lose that Fax! Please read *all* of this area before
  789. using [Silent Answer]. If you still want [Silent Answer], here is what
  790. it does and how to implement it.
  791.  
  792. Silent answer let one telephone line be used for two purposes; receiving
  793. Faxes with the FaxModem, and receiving voice calls with an answering
  794. machine or telephone. When set to this mode, the FaxModem lets your
  795. answering machine answer all incoming calls. If it detects Fax [CNG]
  796. tones, it routes the call to FaxMail Network for Windows. Otherwise, it
  797. just sits silently on the phone line while you or your answering machine
  798. takes the call.
  799.  
  800. When the phone rings and after the second ring the FaxModem will start
  801. monitoring the telephone line. If it detects a Fax tone, it will receive
  802. the Fax. If it does not detects a fax tone, it will do nothing.
  803.  
  804. Silent Answer hardware installation When installing the FaxModem, DO NOT
  805. plug the answering machine into the telephone jack on the back of the
  806. FaxModem. Instead, do one of the following:
  807.  
  808. a. Plug the answering machine and FaxModem into different wall jack (i.e.
  809.    jacks in different rooms).
  810.  
  811. b. Plug the answering machine into a wall jack and the FaxModem into the
  812.    answering machine.
  813.  
  814. c. If your answering machine has some kind of phone-jack switching; use
  815.    this method. You must locate the two devices on separate extensions
  816.    to make silent answer work correctly. This means you can not plug the
  817.    answering machine into the FaxModem or vise versa. You can split a
  818.    single extension with a duplex jack adapter. Radio Shack commonly
  819.    carries these, part number 279-357 for $4.49.
  820.  
  821. Also, if you have an older answering machine that does NOT automatically
  822. turn itself off when it detects that a person or the FaxModem has
  823. answered the call, you need a $7.95 adapter from Radio Shack,
  824. part#43-107. This adapter disconnects the answering machine from the
  825. phone line when the call is answered. It goes between the answering
  826. machine and the wall jack.
  827.  
  828.  Note:
  829.  The device that is picking up the line initially, must answer after, and
  830.  not before, the second ring. This means you should set it to 3 for best
  831.  results. If no other device picks up the line by the time the number of
  832.  rings that FaxMail Network for Windows is set to is reached, FaxMail
  833.  Network for Windows will answer it and process a Fax.

  836. To activate Silent Answer
  837. Load the FaxMail Network for Windows [FaxMail] program and click on the
  838. [Configure] Button and on the Silent Answer [Check] Button. Set the
  839. number of rings until we answer to four and set your answering-machine to
  840. three rings. If the Silent Answer [Check] Button is inactive and gray,
  841. your FaxModem does not support Silent Answer.

  1001. 32bit Fax, FaxMail for Windows and FaxMail Network for Windows are very
  1002. similar with the same look and feel. 32bit Fax and FaxMail Network for
  1003. Windows are 32bit and will run on a single computer or network system. If
  1004. you need a 16 bit single computer version, try FaxMail for Windows.

  1006. If you are going to be using FaxMail Network for Windows on a 16bit
  1007. version of Windows such as Windows 3.1x or Windows for Workgroups, you
  1008. will need to install Win32s, if you have not already done so. You can get
  1009. Win32s.zip, FREE, from Microsoft or search the web, www.ElectraSot.com,
  1010. aol, or CompuServe. Win32s allows 16bit Windows to run some 32bit
  1011. programs.
