  43. INSTALLING OR UPDATING XTEQ X-SETUP
  44.  
  45.  To install Xteq X-Setup, extract all files from the 
  46.  archive to a directory and start SETUP.EXE. After 
  47.  Setup has finished, this directory can be deleted.
  48.  
  49.  If you already have Xteq X-Setup installed, you can
  50.  install this new version into the same path as the 
  51.  previous version.
  52.  
  53.  In case you have added your own tools to the 
  54.  "Programs" menu inside X-Setup, you need to copy the 
  55.  file TOOLS.INI from the X-Setup\bin folder to the 
  56.  new X-Setup\cfg folder after your have installed
  57.  X-Setup. After restarting X-Setup, your old entries
  58.  will be present in X-Setup again.

  61. GENERAL NOTICES ABOUT INSTALLING OR UPDATING X-SETUP
  62.  
  63.  - Xteq X-Setup does NOT contain any backdoor 
  64.    software: it *IS NOT* ad-based or spyware-enabled! 
  65.    Your privacy *IS NOT* at risk by using Xteq X-Setup!
  66.  
  67.  - Xteq X-Setup does not intereference with any other 
  68.    system utility nor does it change any configuration
  69.    by just installing it (except adding some harmless 
  70.    empty lines to MSDOS.SYS on W9x/ME machines which
  71.    the OS just ignores). Therefore, you can always 
  72.    install it and give it a try.

  74.  - In some very rare cases, Anti-Virus software can 
  75.    cause X-Setup to crash (GPFing). In this case, 
  76.    please disable your Anti-Virus software before 
  77.    starting SETUP.EXE or using X-Setup. Especially,
  78.    Norton AntiVirus seems to crash X-Setup. We 
  79.    suggest using the products from TrendMicro, see
  80.    http://www.antivirus.com/

  82.  - If you have deactivated your Anti-Virus software
  83.    and Setup still shows a GPF ("SETUP caused 
  84.    an invalid page fault in...") some of your system
  85.    components are badly damaged. You might try to 
  86.    install the latest Internet Explorer from 
  87.    Microsoft which sometimes is able to fix the 
  88.    problem. If IE's setup also displays a GPF, the 
  89.    best solution is, sorry to say, FORMAT C:\.
  90.  
  91.  - Because X-Setup contains more than 700 plug-ins 
  92.    that are all created using VBScript, some 
  93.    Anti-Virus software may try to "analyze" every 
  94.    plug-in and thus slowing down the setup process 
  95.    of X-Setup dramatically. Normally, the setup 
  96.    process does not take any longer than two minutes 
  97.    but some users have reported setup durations of 
  98.    30 minutes and more! If this happens to you, 
  99.    just cancel setup, stop the On-Access scanner of 
  100.    you Anti-Virus software and restart setup. After 
  101.    setup is finished, you can simply scan the 
  102.    entire \X-Setup folder to make sure that there 
  103.    are no viruses.

  106. UNINSTALLING XTEQ X-SETUP
  107.  
  108.  To remove Xteq X-Setup, use Start -> Settings ->
  109.  Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. If the Control
  110.  Panel is opened while you are uninstalling X-Setup,
  111.  Setup can't remove the icon inside Control Panel
  112.  because it's locked. If this happens, just close
  113.  Control Panel, search for "XQXSetup.cpl" and delete
  114.  it.

  116.  PLEASE NOTE THAT UNINSTALLING X-SETUP DOES *NOT*
  117.  REVERT ANY CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE USING X-SETUP !!

  120. REQUIRED COMPONENTS
  121.  
  122.  Xteq X-Setup requires some system components that
  123.  are include in every edition of Windows since 
  124.  Windows 98 and upwards. X-Setup will check itself
  125.  for the availability of these components before 
  126.  it starts and will display an error if they 
  127.  are missing. 
  128.  
  129.  Important: Windows 95 without Microsoft Office,
  130.  Internet Explorer etc. has an outdated "OLEAUT32.DLL" 
  131.  which is required to run Xteq X-Setup. This means, 
  132.  if you are running a freshly installed Windows 95, 
  133.  Xteq X-Setup will refuse to run and instead crash 
  134.  with the message "Method xxx not found in 
  135.  OLEAUT32.DLL". To fix this, you need to download 
  136.  and install DCOM95 from 
  137.  http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom95/download.asp 
  138.  
  139.  We regret this error, but this is an issue of our 
  140.  development environment since Windows 95 is no longer
  141.  supported by Microsoft ("Out of Live").

  146.  Due to the huge success of Xteq X-Setup, we are

  148.  this and as X-SETUP is mostly freeware, we can no

  153.  help file from within X-Setup, since X-Setup does not
  154.  work, open the folder "\help" inside the directory
  155.  where you have installed X-Setup (normally C:\Program Files\X-Setup\) 
  156.  and double-click the "StartHelp" file.
