  36. <p>This manual presents the Amaya user interface for Unix and Windows
  37. platforms. Your user interface could be a little different depending on your
  38. system and unique configuration. It is not a complete user manual. Its
  39. purpose is only to help users to discover the main features of the software.
  40. This document is organized as a book and you can use the <a
  41. href="MakeBook.html#L1065">Make Book</a> command to build and print the whole
  42. manual.</p>

  44. <p>Many commands in <strong>Amaya</strong> are the same as those provided by
  45. common word processors and editors. They are not presented here. Only
  46. <strong>Amaya</strong> specific aspects are described.</p>
  47.  
  48. <h2><a name="L92011" id="L92011">Starting Amaya</a></h2>
  49.  
  50. <p>To start <strong>Amaya</strong> on a Unix platform, type:</p>
  51. <pre>    amaya [-display host] [document]</pre>
  52.  
  53. <p>The parameter [-display host] is optional. It defines the remote host
  54. screen where Amaya should display Web pages. If you omit this parameter,
  55. Amaya displays on the local host screen.</p>
  56.  
  57. <p>The parameter <code>[document]</code> is optional. It is the file name or
  58. the URI of the first document <strong>Amaya</strong> should display when
  59. starting. If you omit this parameter, a Amaya displays a default document.
  60. The default document could be your <em>home page</em> (see how to <a
  61. href="Configure.html#L138">configure your Home Page</a>) or the Amaya Welcome
  62. page.</p>
