NoSleep! v2.13
==============
DESCRIPTION
-----------------------------------------------------------
Use NoSleep! in order to enjoy DVDs without interruptions
or to run the Disk Defragmenter undisturbed by the screen
saver...
NoSleep! temporarily deactivates the screen saver and some
of your computer's standby features (as far as they are
controllable by software). It does so either by disabling
those services through system calls or by emulating
keyboard activity.
Once started, NoSleep! presents its icon in the system tray
(near the clock). It can be activated / deactivated by
clicking on the icon. Right clicking offers you all the
options available.
INSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------
Unzip all the files into any folder, right-click on the
inf-file and click install. Some shortcuts will be created
in the Start Menu. If you want NoSleep! to be running all
the time, copy the NoSleep! shortcut into the "StartUp"
folder.
On Windows NT, 2000 or XP the installation procedure may
not succeed due to a lack of access rights. In this case,
just copy NoSleep!.exe into any folder and create a
shortcut to it in the Start menu or on the Desktop, or move
NoSleep!.exe to some place easy to access.
UNINSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------
Start -> Programs -> NoSleep! -> Uninstall NoSleep!
If the installation procedure did not succeed, neither will
the uninstallation procedure. In this case, simply delete
any shortcut you created to NoSleep!.exe and the files
NoSleep!.exe and NoSleep!.txt wherever you put them.
SETTINGS & OPTIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------
In the Settings dialog, you may toggle several features:
* Per default NoSleep! always starts up activated. Preserve
its state in order to start it up in the same state as it
was shut down.
* On some systems some standby settings seem not to be
affected by the default settings. Emulating keyboard
activity (that means emulating the pressing of "Num Lock"
as frequently as your screen saver settings require it)
may prevent this deficiency. If in any case the default
settings should be ineffective, try this option.
* As a bonus feature, Swatch Internet Time can be displayed
in NoSleep!'s tooltip (which is shown when you move the
mouse cursor over its icon). [If you would like to see
the Internet Time always, consider downloading TheBeat]
You may remote control NoSleep!'s start up state also by
using command line options:
NoSleep! [ /on | /off ]
In the same way, you can change its state from the command
line while it is already running. Then you even have some
more options:
NoSleep! [ /on | /off | /tgl | /x | @ ]
where /tgl toggles NoSleep!'s state, /x terminates the
running instance and @ reinitializes the tray icon.
Like this you may change its state even by (keyboard)
shortcuts: create a shortcut to NoSleep!.exe and add the
desired command line option and shortcut key combination.
If you also create a (keyboard) shortcut to you favorite
screen saver, you'll be able to control your screen saver's
behavior completely by shortcuts (and that without any more
complicated piece of software)!
COMPATIBILITY
-----------------------------------------------------------
NoSleep! has been tested on a broad range of systems.
It doesn't work as expected on all of them. Certain
systems, especially those running under Windows 95, don't
respond correctly to a software based disabling of energy
saving features - on those systems keyboard activity
emulation may solve the problem. However standby features
supported by a computer's BIOS may, if not controlled by
Windows, not respond at all. This is not a bug, but simply
a problem I haven't found a solution for.
REVISIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------
2.13 - If the Explorer "crashes" while NoSleep! was
running, its icon should automatically reappear in
the system tray (if it doesn't, you may retrieve it
manually by starting NoSleep! with the @ parameter)
- Minor improvements
2.12 - "Num Lock" is used instead of "Scroll Lock" for less
'buggy' behavior
- Bug fix: keyboard emulation can again be toggled
while NoSleep! is switched off
- Bug fix: the screen saver is now correctly reset at
switching NoSleep! off
- Bug fix: parameter /tgl is now also case insensitive

2.11 - Bug fix: settings are now saved at system shutdown
- Bug fix: settings are now saved to the registry on
Win NT / 2000
- Bug fix: (un)installation now works on Win NT / 2000
- Minor improvements

command prompt
- The delay time for keyboard activity emulation is
determined automatically

- Minor improvements
2.00 - NoSleep! rewritten from scratch and publicly
released
