  33. What is Advanced Registry Tracer ?
  34. ----------------------------------

  36. Advanced Registry Tracer (ART; formely RegFix) is an utility
  37. designed for analysing the changes made to Windows Registry - by
  38. making the "snapshots" of it and keeping them in the browsable
  39. database. You can compare any two snapshots and get the list of
  40. keys/data which are new, deleted or just changed. Moreover, you
  41. can create undo/redo files (for example,to rollback the
  42. changes). Very useful for detecting trojan viruses and
  43. elimination some problems caused by software and hardware
  44. install/uninstall.

  46. Unlike Registry monitoring software (such as RegMon and
  47. Win-Expose Registry), and most uninstallers (CleenSweep,
  48. Uninstall, etc.), ART compares full copies of the Registry made
  49. at different times, while the software mantioned above just
  50. monitors all accesses to the Registry in real time. So, our
  51. method allows to track all the changes, and doesn't affect the
  52. system performance.

  54. ART deals only with the root Registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  55. and HKEY_USERS, since the key HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG is a copy of 
  56. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\000x; HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT is a copy of 
  57. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes; HKEY_CURRENT_USER is a part
  58. of HKEY_USERS; and HKEY_DYN_DATA is (normally) used by the
  59. system only and is of no interest to a user.
