  4.    Version 2.90
  5.  
  6.    1. Added extraction only support of BZIP2, JAR (Java ARchive)
  7.       and ACE 2.0 formats.
  8.    
  9.    2. Now it is possible to use full file paths such as d:\path\name
  10.       in the exclude lists and -x<name> switch when archiving. 
  11.       Earlier versions understood only relative file paths here.
  12.  
  13.    3. New option "Append archive name to path" in the
  14.       "Settings/Compression" dialog. It is used only if the default
  15.       folder for extracted files is specified and it controls if the 
  16.       archive name is appended to the default folder name when 
  17.       constructing the destination path.
  18.  
  19.    4. New 'E' parameter for -ag switch denotes a day of year.
  20.       For example: rar a -agEEE backup.
  21.  
  22.    5. To provide a reasonable tradeoff between compression and
  23.       reliability, RAR resets solid statistics between volumes
  24.       only if sufficient data (about 4 MB) had been processed since 
  25.       the last reset.
  26.  
  27.       You may use two new switches to change this default behaviour.
  28.       Switch -sv forces RAR to always reset statistics, regardless
  29.       of volume size, when -sv- disables such reset at all times.
  30.  
  31.       Switch -sv- supersedes -sd, though the latter is also recognized
  32.       by RAR for compatibility purposes.
  33.  
  34.    6. The choice "Never" is added to the file overwrite request
  35.       displayed by console mode RAR. Style of console RAR requests
  36.       is somewhat altered.
  37.  
  38.    7. "Extract Here" item is added to archives context menu.
  39.       You may use it to unpack archive contents to the current folder.
  40.  
  41.    8. If you selected several archives in Explorer and then
  42.       right clicked them, the context menu will include both
  43.       archiving and extraction commands, so you may unpack all
  44.       the archives at once.
  45.  
  46.       The old group unpacking method, through dragging a group
  47.       by the right mouse button to the destination folder,
  48.       is also supported.

  50.    9. File selection is not cleared when a user cancels the archiving
  51.       in WinRAR, so it is possible to repeat archiving without
  52.       selecting files again.
  53.  
  54.   10. File lists (@listfile parameters of the command line) may now
  55.       contain comments preceeded by // characters. For example:

  57.       c:\work\doc\*.txt         //backup text documents
  58.       c:\work\image\*.bmp       //backup pictures

  60.   11. Disks disabled in the system policy are not displayed in the toolbar
  61.       and "Change drive" menu.

  65.       a) switches -y -inul did not disable some messages in GUI WinRAR;

  67.       b) sometimes WinRAR could display "Cannot create temporary file" 
  68.          error when opening a lot of archived files for a short time;

  70.       c) now RAR skips archived names like 'prn', which belong to devices
  71.          reported by Windows 2000 as pipe. Names of character devices are
  72.          skipped by both this and previous WinRAR versions.

  77.    1. We express our gratitude to Francesco Indrio

  80.    2. Added support of Unicode in file names. It may help to avoid
  81.       many problems related with national and some special characters
  82.       in archived file names. The complete support of Unicode
  83.       is available only for Windows NT and Windows 2000 users,
  84.       but this feature still provides some benefits for
  85.       Win9x/WinME users.
  86.  
  87.    3. Dialogs "Info", "SFX", "Comment", "Lock" and "Protect" are
  88.       combined to a single dialog, so you may change several
  89.       archive parameters at once.
  90.  
  91.    4. "Advanced SFX options" button added to SFX dialog allows
  92.       to set additional parameters of SFX module such as extraction
  93.       path, title, window text others.
  94.  
  95.    5. Toolbar:
  96.  
  97.       a) toolbar buttons are reordered;
  98.  
  99.       b) "Add" button is now available also inside of archives;
  100.  
  101.       c) "Extract" and "Lock" are not present on the toolbar
  102.          by default, but you may use "Extract To" and
  103.          "Info/Options/Lock archive" instead. On the other hand
  104.          it is possible to enable these buttons using a new
  105.          "Select buttons..." command in "Settings/General" dialog;
  106.  
  107.       d) "Extract To" command now has the same Alt-E keyboard
  108.          shortcut both inside and outside of archives.
  109.          Shortcut of the "Extract" command is changed to "Alt-W".

  111.    6. Changes in the "Archive name and parameters" dialog:
  112.  
  113.       a) "General/Lock archive" option - lock a created or
  114.          modified archive;
  115.  
  116.       b) "Advanced/Pause after each volume" option - always ask
  117.          confirmation before creating next volume regardless
  118.          of disk type;
  119.  
  120.       c) "Advanced/Recovery record" - specify the size of the recovery
  121.          record as a percentage of the total archive size;
  122.  
  123.       d) "SFX options" - set parameters of the created SFX archive;
  124.  
  125.       e) "Files to add" and "Files to exclude" had been moved from
  126.          "Advanced" to the new "Files" sheet;
  127.  
  128.       f) "Files/File paths" - select a method of storing file paths;
  129.  
  130.       g) "Put each file to separate archive" - put each selected file
  131.          in the current folder and all files in selected subfolders to
  132.          separate archives, each archive contains only one file.
  133.  
  134.    7. "History" menu is removed. The names of a few recently opened
  135.       archives are added to the end of "Files" menu.
  136.  
  137.    8. The new "Import/Export" submenu in "Settings" menu includes
  138.       two commands allowing to export WinRAR settings to Settings.reg
  139.       file and import them later. It may be useful if you wish to
  140.       restore WinRAR settings after re-installing Windows or if is 
  141.       needed to move them to another computer. Settings.reg file is 
  142.       created in the same folder as WinRAR.exe.
  143.  
  144.    9. "Settings/General" dialog:
  145.  
  146.       a) "High priority" option is removed as it usually
  147.          deteriorated overall system performance without any real
  148.          increase of WinRAR performance. But "Low priority" option
  149.          is present and it can be useful if you wish to give more
  150.          processor time to other tasks.
  151.  
  152.       b) New "Keep archives history" option allows to disable
  153.          storing the names of recently opened archives, for example,
  154.          for security reasons.
  155.  
  156.       c) "Always on top" option places WinRAR window above all 
  157.          other programs. You may wish to set it if you frequently
  158.          use WinRAR as a drag and drop target.
  159.  
  160.       d) Use "Toobar/Select buttons..." to customize WinRAR buttons.

  162.   10. "Settings/Compression" dialog:
  163.  
  164.       a) "Volume options" are removed. Now WinRAR always creates
  165.          independent volumes, because they minimize data losses
  166.          in case of archive damage.
  167.  
  168.          Compression profiles introduced in the previous version
  169.          provide better flexibility than the removed "Always put
  170.          recovery record" option. You may specify all required
  171.          settings in a separate profile intended for volumes.
  172.  
  173.       b) "Default folder for extracted files" is moved to this dialog.
  174.          Its behaviour is changed a bit, now it is used both in
  175.          "Extract To" and "Extract" commands as the base part of
  176.          the destination path. The complete path is constructed
  177.          by appending an archive name to the default folder.
  178.  
  179.          "Settings/Extraction" dialog is removed.
  180.          
  181.   11. New options in the "Settings/File list" dialog:
  182.  
  183.       a) "Show archives first" - display archive names above all
  184.          other files in the file list window;
  185.  
  186.       b) "Merge volumes contents" - when you open the first volume,
  187.          read and display contents of all volumes available in the same
  188.          folder as the first volume.
  189.  
  190.       Both options are enabled by default.
  191.  
  192.   12. "Settings/Viewer" dialog:
  193.  
  194.       a) "Reuse existing window" option tells WinRAR to keep
  195.          only one internal viewer window.
  196.  
  197.   13. Changes in the GUI SFX module script language:
  198.  
  199.       a) New "License" command displays a license text before
  200.          extracting files;
  201.  
  202.       b) New "Presetup" command runs the specified program before
  203.          extracting files;
  204.  
  205.       c) New "ExtSign" command informs SFX that additional data
  206.          in free format may be present at the end of archive;
  207.  
  208.       d) script may include more than one Setup command;
  209.  
  210.       e) New optional syntax of "Text" command.
  211.          "Text" and "License" commands now support some HTML tags;
  212.  
  213.       f) "Silent" command may have an optional parameter.
  214.  
  215.   14. SFX module displays the total processed progress bar while
  216.       unpacking files.
  217.  
  218.   15. Archive information dialog:
  219.  
  220.       a) the authenticity information is displayed in a separate
  221.          window, which can be scrolled to view very long AV strings;
  222.  
  223.       b) this dialog now contains the size of maximum continuous damaged
  224.          area, which still can be repaired using the recovery record
  225.          contained in the archive. This number is for the best case,
  226.          a real value can be smaller depending on the type of damage.
  227.  
  228.   16. Command 's-' allows to remove SFX module from SFX archive.
  229.  
  230.   17. Switch '-ag' supports two new format parameters:
  231.  
  232.       a) 'W' - a number of the current week in a year;
  233.  
  234.       b) 'A' - a number of the current day in a week.
  235.          Weeks start with Monday.
  236.  
  237.   18. New switch '-k' - lock archive.
  238.  
  239.   19. New switch '-vp' - pause after each volume.
  240.  
  241.   20. You may specify the recovery record size as a percentage of the
  242.       total archive size in 'rr' command and '-rr' switch. For 
  243.       example, -rr3%
  244.  
  245.   21. New -ep2 switch - store full file paths when archiving.
  246.  
  247.   22. You may break the archiving operation directly from
  248.       the "Diagnostic messages" dialog using "Break operation" button.
  249.  
  250.   23. Switches -inul and -y can be used in WinRAR command line
  251.       to disable error messages.
  252.  
  253.   24. Switch -sv is removed, now RAR and WinRAR by default create
  254.       independent volumes. You may override it using the new -sd
  255.       switch, but note that it reduces your chances to restore
  256.       a part of data in case of archive damage.
  257.  
  258.   25. In case of write error WinRAR asks for "Retry/Abort"
  259.       confirmation instead of immediate aborting as before, so a user
  260.       has a possibility to free some space on the destination disk.

  262.   26. The following keyboard shortcuts are now supported by WinRAR:
  263.  
  264.       a) F2 - rename a file under the cursor. It is supported
  265.          only outside archives;
  266.  
  267.       b) F4 - open the address list.
  268.  
  269.   27. RCVT archive converter is removed from WinRAR distributive.
  270.       It is available in "RAR extras" section of www.rarsoft.com.
  271.  
  272.   28. Note to users willing to translate WinRAR to their native
  273.       language: please look at rarlng.rar archive in "RAR extras"
  274.       section of www.rarsoft.com. Now it is possible to localize
  275.       WinRAR very easily simply by editing plain text files.
