  1. OPERA STARTUP DIALOG
  2.  
  3. This dialog is presented to you upon next startup if Opera crashes. You 
  4. have the following options:
  5.  
  6. "Continue where the interruption occurred"
  7.  
  8. Opera will start up showing the windows that you had open before the 
  9. crash.
  10.  
  11. "Start with saved windows"
  12.  
  13. Opera will start showing the windows that you had last saved.
  14.  
  15. "Start with no windows"
  16.  
  17. Opera starts with no open windows to minimize the risk of crashing.
  18.  
  19. Make your selection and press the "OK" button to continue.

  22. ADVANCED STARTUP SETTINGS
  23.  
  24. By clicking on the "Advanced startup settings" button, you will see the 
  25. following options:
  26.  
  27. "Minimize number of simultaneous connections" 
  28.  
  29. The number of connections that Opera can possibly have through the
  30. connection software is controlled in the "Connections" part of the
  31. "File/Preferences" dialog, and normally this number can be set quite
  32. high, but on some systems, Opera will not be able to exchange
  33. information with the Internet at the number of connections that can be
  34. made logically, which may result in a crash. Ticking this box will set
  35. the number of connections to a maximum of four (4), preventing this kind
  36. of overload.

  38. "Minimize network buffer size" 
  39.  
  40. Checking this box will set the size of the network buffer very low,
  41. which may be very convenient as having a large network buffer may render
  42. your system very unstable in some cases. The size of the network buffer
  43. will be set to 1 kB for the duration of your Opera session. If you find
  44. that this is beneficial to your system, you may permanently set the size
  45. of the network buffer low in "File/Preferences", "Connections".

  47. "Synchronous DNS" 
  48.  
  49. Normally, Opera uses DNS asynchronously in order to be able to retrieve
  50. information from the Internet in multiple windows at the same time, but
  51. enabling synchronous DNS may be a good idea if you are experiencing
  52. problems with your network's "Winsock" implementation, or if you are
  53. connecting to a server that does not permit asynchronous data transmit.
  54. This setting is toggled in the "File/Preferences", "Connections" menu.

  57. Note that if you wish to disable this dialog, check the box marked "Do 
  58. not show this dialog again".
