  8. Description
  9. -----------
  10. This program focuses on providing the basic functions needed to
  11. effectively manage projects. With MinuteMan, in a few minutes you
  12. can create an easy-to understand project schedule to;
  13.  
  14. - Identify the dates of tasks and milestones
  15. - Record useful notes on each task
  16. - Assign people and define expenditures
  17. - Print Gantt and Pert Charts and a handful of concise schedule and
  18.   budget reports.
  19.  
  20. MinuteMan reports can be generated in hardcopy as well as text- and
  21. graphics- file formats, compatible with standard word-processor and
  22. spreadsheet programs. This means you can easily distribute your
  23. reports, even PERT and Gantt Charts, via email to team members
  24. and other interested parties.

  26. MinuteMan supports multiple, linked subprojects. This means you
  27. can have any one project broken down into separate activities
  28. ("Engineering", "Sales") with links between critical "Program-Wide"
  29. tasks.

  56.                       TroubleShooting Tips
  57.  
  58. Usually the MinuteMan Program installs and runs properly. 
  59. In the event that a problem is encountered, following are 
  60. some things to check for or change;
  61.  
  62. 1.) Make sure you have the "full" version of the program. 
  63. It is about 2MB (compressed). Some archives redistribute 
  64. the program with certain libraries removed. Those cases are 
  65. easily identifiable because the file size is then well under 
  66. 500KB. If you do have the small version, you can obtain the 
  67. missing libraries from the archive, but better still it is
  68. recommended that you download the entire copy of the latest 
  69. version of the program from our website at;

  73. Assuming you have the full program;
  74.  
  75. 2.) Windows requires that all other programs be shut off prior 
  76. to installing a new program. If not, the installation may not 
  77. complete, and you will get an error message indicating a 
  78. conflict with the application. 
  79.  
  80. In Windows '95, if you simultaneously press CTRL, ALT, and 
  81. DEL a menu will come up showing you which programs are 
  82. still running, and it will allow you to select ones to shut off. 
  83.  
  84. A common problem is if you ran a browser such as Netscape 
  85. prior to doing the installation. Even if Netscape were shut 
  86. off, it may have left other processes running. It is 
  87. recommended to shut off Netscape, reboot your system, and
  88. install MinuteMan before doing anything else.
  89.  
  90. On some systems, the installation process may result in an
  91. error message "COMDLG32.OCX failed to self-register". 
  92. Minuteman will not be able to run until that file is registered.
  93. If you  are well-versed in editing your Windows registry, you
  94. may be able to manually register the file. However, it is 
  95. recommended instead that you de-install the 32-bit version of 
  96. MinuteMan, using Windows' Control Panel and  "Add/Remove Programs"
  97. and then download the 16-bit version of this program from our 
  98. website and install it.

  100. 3.) When installing the program, it should be installed to 
  101. a directory different from where the installation kit has 
  102. been placed. I.E. if you download/unzip the file to C:\MINMAN 
  103. and then try to run the setup program and install the program 
  104. in the default of C:\MINMAN, there will probably be an error. 
  105. Usually the installation will not complete but it is possible
  106. that the program may fully install and then mis-operate somehow.

  108. 4.) There have been cases reported of pc's running resource-intensive
  109. applications, such as Networking software or Games, interfering 
  110. with either the installation or the operation of the program. 
  111. Often this has been remedied by rebooting the system, and 
  112. doing the installation before starting up any other applications. 
  113. Also, using a CD-ROM drive to play music while running the 
  114. installation program or while running MinuteMan could 
  115. conceivably cause a problem.

  117. 5.) If your machine has regional settings other than English 
  118. (US-standard) there is a remote possibility of a problem. The 
  119. program has been tested with many common regional settings and 
  120. works fine. If by chance your machine is set for something other 
  121. than English (US-standard), you might try configuring it as 
  122. English (US-standard), rebooting, and seeing if the program works. 
  123. (If that happens, please report your original regional setting 
  124. to us and we will investigate modifying the program to eliminate
  125. the problem.)

  127. 6.) With the program running, some screens may not display properly. 
  128. The most common problem is that thin lines or borders of objects 
  129. disappear. This can usually be corrected by changing the Color Palette 
  130. settings on your PC. Use the Windows Control Panel, and go to the 
  131. Display settings. Most PCs support choices such as "256 Colors", 
  132. "High Color (16-Bit)", and "True Color (16- and 32-bit)". Usually 
  133. most if not all the Setting choices will result in proper operation. 
  134. The program also runs best when using display settings for "Small Fonts".
