  41. PKZIP Command Line provides a powerful command line 
  42. interface for compressing, extracting, and managing your
  43. compressed data files.  PKZIP Command Line is the latest 
  44. version of the popular data compression program from 
  45. PKWARE, Inc. PKZIP is a powerful utility that provides 
  46. many functions for data compression, file archival, 
  47. management, and distribution. PKZIP has led the way in 
  48. industry standard .ZIP format compression since 1989, 
  49. when PKWARE introduced the .ZIP file format.

  52. INSTALLATION
  53. ------------

  55. PKZIP Command Line is installed using the Microsoft Windows
  56. Installer.  This installation process makes installing 
  57. and configuring PKZIP Command Line easy and avoids common 
  58. conflicts that can arise when installing new software.  
  59.  
  60. If you have purchased a REGISTERED copy of this software, it is 
  61. distributed either on CD-ROM or as an electronic delivery file
  62. available for downloading from the Internet.  If you have a 
  63. SHAREWARE copy of this software, it will be distributed using
  64. a PKSFX(R) self-extracting file.
  65.  
  66. Installing from CD-ROM:
  67.  
  68. If you are installing from CD-ROM, simply insert the CD into
  69. your drive.  The Autorun feature will automatically start the
  70. setup program.  If the Autorun feature is not enabled on your 
  71. system, you can run SETUP.EXE directly from the CD.  After the 
  72. setup program has started, follow the instructions provided 
  73. on-screen to complete the installation.

  76. Installing from a PKSFX file:
  77.  
  78. If you are installing a version of the software downloaded from
  79. the Internet (i.e. either a REGISTERED version purchased
  80. online, or a SHAREWARE copy downloaded from an Internet site such
  81. as www.pkware.com) you will receive a PKSFX self-extracting file.
  82. The Windows Installer is packaged inside the PKSFX file.  
  83. Run the PKSFX file to start the installation.  It will extract 
  84. the files needed to install the software and it will automatically
  85. start the setup program.  Follow the instructions provided by 
  86. the setup program to complete the installation.

  88. When you run the PKSFX file, the files it contains are extracted
  89. to an intermediate folder and the installation continues from
  90. this location.  Once PKZIP Command Line is installed and working
  91. properly on your system, you may delete this intermediate folder
  92. to free up disk space.  If you delete this intermediate folder
  93. but later want to reinstall the product, you will need to re-run
  94. the PKSFX file.

  96. We encourage you to make a backup of your PKSFX file, or of the
  97. contents of the intermediate folder to ensure you will be able
  98. to reinstall this product if you ever need to in the future.

  102. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  105. PKZIP Command Line is intended for use on Microsoft Windows 95,
  106. Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000 systems.
  107.  
  108. If you plan to use the Digital Signature feature available with
  109. PKZIP Command Line on systems running Windows 95 or NT 4.0 systems, 
  110. you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater. PKZIP 
  111. utilizes several system (e.g. security) files installed in 
  112. conjunction with Internet Explorer. Therefore, Internet Explorer 
  113. (version 4.0 or greater) must reside on your system prior to 
  114. installing PKZIP Command Line.

  116. You must also obtain and install a valid Digital Certificate onto
  117. your system prior to using the Digitial Signature feature of
  118. PKZIP Command Line.  Visit PKWARE's website for information
  119. on where you can get a Digital Certificate.

  127. The files that comprise the REGISTERED version of PKZIP Command 
  128. Line are not for distribution.  Consult the end-user license 
  129. agreement that came with your copy of this program for 
  130. information on the terms and conditions of use.

  132. SHAREWARE versions of PKZIP Command Line are available 
  133. for distribution.  However, if you plan to distribute the 
  134. SHAREWARE version of PKZIP Command Line to friends, associates, 
  135. or to an online service, you must distribute the entire 
  136. file set as originally received.  Do not distribute 
  137. individual files.
