The MTA Tables database (MTATBLS.NSF) is shared by all Notes MTAs and provides file format and character set information. MTAs use this information during outbound and inbound message conversion to enhance the presentation of mail to the recipient. Each MTA fully installs the MTA tables during the installation procedure. Each tables database contains a comprehensive list of file IDs and character sets commonly used in today's electronic mail interchange.
Only technically knowledgeable administrators who thoroughly understand all aspects of the database should try to change the character set and file identification information. Incorrect changes made to the database may result in the MTAs not functioning correctly. For additional information, please refer to the respective Lotus Notes MTA's
Administrator's Guide.
Headline
The MTA Tables database is also where administrators configure subagent control information for use by the MADMAN subagent.
Database views
Basic
The MTA Tables database has the following three views:
Bullet
$MTACharSet where you can see all character sets
$MTAFileId where you can see all file formats
Subagent Control where you can view subagent control information
used by the MADMAN subagent.

What you can do with the database
Basic
Most customers will never need to extend or modify the content of the MTA Tables database. Those customers who have specific needs, however, may customize and/or add to this database, for example, by adding new character sets or changing the default file extension for inbound attachments without a filename or extension. Only technically knowledgeable administrators who thoroughly understand all aspects of the database should try to make changes. Incorrect changes made to the database may result in the MTAs not functioning correctly. For additional information, please refer to the respective Lotus Notes MTA's
Administrator's Guide.
Configuring the MADMAN subagent
control document (currently only the X.400 MTA reports MADMAN statistics)
The MADMAN subagent gathers MADMAN statistics for the MADMAN database. The MADMAN subagent is a Notes server Add-In task that must run on the same Notes server as the X.400 MTA. Prior to running the MADMAN subagent, you must initially configure a Subagent Control document in the MTA Tables database.
