Macromedia Dreamweaver is a visual HTML editor designed for professional developers.
Dreamweaver makes creating complex dynamic pages as easy as drag and drop, allowing designers to create sophisticated layouts and animations without writing a line of code. Dreamweaver generates dynamic HTML that makes use of JavaScript and cascading style sheets. The resulting code is compatible with the latest versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer . You can also generate pages that work well with earlier versions. A "check browser" behavior automatically sends viewers the page optimized for their particular browser.
Dreamweaver won't modify your source code, making it easy to switch back and forth between your favorite code editor. You can import and format Word documents, and import formatted data data from spreadsheets or databases to create HTML tables.
Other features include: an integrated image editor, HTML syntax color coding, support for absolute positioning, the ability to make changes across all the pages on a site using style sheets or a "Common Elements Library", integrated FTP uploading (with firewall support), link checking, visual site management tools, the abillity to launch and edit any file in an external editor, Server Site Include support, team collaboration features, XML support, templates, and a customizable, extensible interface.
This newest release includes a quick tag editor, supports HTML styles, offers improved inline image maps, comes with an improved HTML inspector, supports new types of objects (such as dates, navigation bars, jump menus, and framesets), allows Word documents to be imported and formatted, allows formatted data data from spreadsheets or databases to be converted into Dreamweaver HTML tables, lets you share status and notes about files and share them with team members, allows you to launch and edit any file in an external editor, and more.

Macromedia's Dreamweaver is for Web designers who can't decide between a pretty WYSIWYG editor and the HTML purity of a Notepad-like text editor. It offers both, combined into a powerhouse package that puts it near the top of Web authoring packages. It supports cascading style sheets; offers visual control over table and frame layouts and page templates; and generates cross-platform dynamic HTML. Also included are many site-management features (including site-wide editing), an FTP client, and an image map editor. One feature alone sets Dreamweaver apart from other would-be WYSIWYG editors: It doesn't tamper with your original code, unless you want it to. The price is aimed at professionals, but even beginners should look at this 30-day demo to see what a market leader looks like. This version has not yet been reviewed.
