  2. TweakBIOS help file (versions 1.50 and above)

  4.      Short Introduction
  5.  
  6. First of all, TweakBIOS is *not* a TSR. It does *not* take up any 
  7. memory, once you exit it. The settings you make in the program
  8. will be in effect until the computer is turned off or re-booted.
  9.  
  10. The user interface if TweakBIOS very much resembles the
  11. Award BIOS. Use the arrow keys to move between the different
  12. settings, and PageUp/PageDown or +/- to change them. 
  13.  
  14. On the right side of the screen you see information about
  15. your chipset, cache, memory configuration and memory timings. 
  16.  
  17. The 'Actual DRAM timings' you might see are the ones that people 
  18. most often use to compare memory timings. Many of the settings 
  19. in this program *don't* affect these timings, but they *still* 
  20. make your computer faster/slower!
  21.  
  22. To apply the settings, press F10. If the settings are too
  23. fast for your computer, it might freeze at this stage.
  24.  
  25. With F2 you can save the settings for the device to a file. Note
  26. that pressing F2 only saves the settings for the *current* device
  27. (the one you are viewing at the moment), *not* all your devices.
  28. The file will have the extension TWK.
  29.  
  30. With F3 you can load the settings for the device from a file,
  31. if you have earlier save the settings.
  32.  
  33. With the registered version of this program you can save your 
  34. favourite settings to a file, and automatically load them
  35. each time you start your computer! 
  36. You can do that by running TweakBIOS in your autoexec.bat:

  38. C:\DIR\TWEAK.EXE /LOAD
  39.  
  40. where 'DIR' is the name of the directory that contains TweakBIOS.
  41. TweakBIOS tries then to load a saved file for *every* PCI device 
  42. in your computer. If you haven't saved a certain device's settings
  43. (which you needn't do), a text similar to 
  44. 'USB Controller: No file found.' will be shown. For those devices
  45. that you *have* saved settings, a text 
  46. 'Applying settings (might freeze)...' will appear.

  66. - generally, a smaller value is faster
  67. - enabled is *usually* faster than disabled
