- TweakBIOS help file (versions 1.50 and above)
-
- Short Introduction
-
- First of all, TweakBIOS is *not* a TSR. It does *not* take up any
- memory, once you exit it. The settings you make in the program
- will be in effect until the computer is turned off or re-booted.
-
- The user interface if TweakBIOS very much resembles the
- Award BIOS. Use the arrow keys to move between the different
- settings, and PageUp/PageDown or +/- to change them.
-
- On the right side of the screen you see information about
- your chipset, cache, memory configuration and memory timings.
-
- The 'Actual DRAM timings' you might see are the ones that people
- most often use to compare memory timings. Many of the settings
- in this program *don't* affect these timings, but they *still*
- make your computer faster/slower!
-
- To apply the settings, press F10. If the settings are too
- fast for your computer, it might freeze at this stage.
-
- With F2 you can save the settings for the device to a file. Note
- that pressing F2 only saves the settings for the *current* device
- (the one you are viewing at the moment), *not* all your devices.
- The file will have the extension TWK.
-
- With F3 you can load the settings for the device from a file,
- if you have earlier save the settings.
-
- With the registered version of this program you can save your
- favourite settings to a file, and automatically load them
- each time you start your computer!
- You can do that by running TweakBIOS in your autoexec.bat:
-
- C:\DIR\TWEAK.EXE /LOAD
-
- where 'DIR' is the name of the directory that contains TweakBIOS.
- TweakBIOS tries then to load a saved file for *every* PCI device
- in your computer. If you haven't saved a certain device's settings
- (which you needn't do), a text similar to
- 'USB Controller: No file found.' will be shown. For those devices
- that you *have* saved settings, a text
- 'Applying settings (might freeze)...' will appear.
-
- Here is an example:
-
- Loading chip registers from file(s)...
-
- CPU-to-PCI Bridge: No file found.
-
- PCI-to-ISA Bridge: Applying settings (might freeze)... Done.
-
- IDE Controller: Applying settings (might freeze)... Done.
-
- USB Controller: No file found.
-
-
-
-
-
- Here are some general tips for the different settings:
-
- - generally, a smaller value is faster
- - enabled is *usually* faster than disabled
-
