  16. 1. Important Note
  17. =================================================================
  18. Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
  19. BEFORE you continue the installation.

  22. 2. Installation Notes 
  23. =================================================================
  24. These drivers require DirectX 7.0 to support DirectDraw 
  25. & Direct3D applications.
  26.  
  27. NOTE:  You may need to reinstall DirectX 7.0 after installing
  28. these drivers for full DirectDraw and Direct3D support.  This 
  29. can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX
  30.  
  31. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 
  32. and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous
  33. version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before 
  34. installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control 
  35. Panel by:
  36.     1.  Choosing "Add/Remove Programs"
  37.     2.  Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal"
  38.     3.  Click on the "Add/Remove" button
  39.     4.  Then follow the uninstall process.
  40.  
  41. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers
  42. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  43. Before installing the Diamond ViperII Z200 Windows 9x display 
  44. drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA".
  45.     1. Open your Control Panel and select Display.  
  46.     2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type 
  47.     button.
  48.     3. Click the Change button.  
  49.     4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the 
  50.     top of the left window and select Standard Display Types.
  51.     5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 
  52.     Click OK.

  55. 3. Installation Instructions
  56. =================================================================
  57. NOTE:  This driver should automatically begin installation
  58. upon execution.  If it does not, the default extraction directory
  59. is C:\Diamond\Update .  In this directory is the INSTALL.EXE
  60. utilty that can be used to manually install the drivers.
  61.  
  62. Manual Installation via .inf:
  63. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  64. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  65.  
  66. Start the "Display" applet program. 
  67.  
  68. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Advanced..." button. Select 
  69. the "Adapter" page, then push the "Change" button in the "Adapter 
  70. Type" area.
  71.  
  72. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
  73.  
  74. Specify the path to the new drivers' .inf file and press the 
  75.       <ENTER> key:
  76.       Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
  77.                  and enter A:\.
  78.       Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you 
  79.                  copied the drivers, either on your local hard 
  80.                  drive or on a network shared drive.
  81.       Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers 
  82.                  are, choose the "Browse..." button and find them.
  83.  
  84. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter 
  85. that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and 
  86. click OK.
  87.  
  88. Windows will copy the display drivers to the proper 
  89. directories on your system.
  90.  
  91. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from 
  92. the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
  93.  
  94. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
  95. applet and select alternate screen resolutions, color depths and 
  96. related features.

  99. 4. Issue Addressed
  100. =================================================================
  101. Resolves black box issues with SuperBike 2000.
  102.  
  103. Resolves crosshair and menu issues with Rogue Spear:
  104. Urban Operations.
  105.  
  106. Resolves corruption issues in Need For Speed:  Porsche
  107. Unleashed.

  110. 5. Known Issues
  111. =================================================================
  112. If problems occur with high resolution 32bpp modes, lower the 
  113. refresh, resolution or color depth.
  114.  
  115. You may need to reinstall DirectX 7.0 after installing
  116. these drivers for full DirectDraw and Direct3D support.  This 
  117. can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX
  118.  
  119. This driver enables Transformation and Lighting.  Using this 
  120. feature may result in visual anomalies.  Performance increases or 
  121. decreases are dependent on your system speed and applications.

  124. 6. Known Limitations 
  125. =================================================================
  126. This driver is optimized for DirectX7. It is not optimized for 
  127. DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runs, with limitations 
  128. noted, on operating systems with either DirectX version installed
  129.  
  130. By design if both a CRT and a TV are attached and powered on, 
  131. both will be detected and Windows will boot to simultaneous 
  132. TV & CRT display. The TV must be powered off for Windows to 
  133. boot to CRT only.
  134.  
  135. SECAM is not supported.
  136.  
  137. Only one overlay surface is available in hardware. If a second 
  138. overlay stream is attempted, the video stream will play 
  139. through GDI.
  140.  
  141. Certain applications, such as Quake III, may not return properly 
  142. from APM's Monitor Shutdown. Such applications will need to be
  143. restarted to recover. Currently, you will need to disable APM before 
  144. running affected applications.
  145.  
  146. The Gamma utility has no effect on Flat Panel Displays.
  147.  
  148. By design, Flat Panel and TV will not operate at the same time.
  149.  
  150. ICT will not be fully functional with COMCTRL32.DLL version 4.70 and
  151. earlier.  This may impact Windows 95 platforms.  The problems 
  152. experienced will included :
  153.  
  154.   1) The InControl Desktop Properties will not execute.
  155.   2) The InControl Desktop Manager will not execute.
  156.   3) The Diamond 3D page will not execute.
  157.  
  158. To resolve this issue you can do one of the following:
  159.  
  160.   1)  Install a later version of COMCTRL32.DLL from the Microsoft Web
  161.       Site.  It is part of a self-extracting executable (50comupd.exe)
  162.       which can be downloaded from Microsoft's webpage through the link
  163.       http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q186/1/76.ASP 
  164.       Download the latest version, currently select the option  
  165.       "Download 50comupd.exe (x86)" 0.49 MB.
  166.   2) Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.

  169. Zoran software may not install on Windows 95 and OSR2 systems. 
  170. Zoran and S3/Diamond are aware of this issue.

  172. InControl Tools (ICT)99:
  173. InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take  
  174. effect when running under Windows 98.
  175. Diamond ICT99 "Internet Sites" popup requires IE3.0 or above or 
  176. Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above.

  178. After uninstalling the Update Wizard with Windows 950a or 950b, 
  179. reboot your machine to remove Start Menu entries.
