PowWow is a communications utility that lets you chat via typing or voice, transfer files, view personal home pages and pictures, form conferences, and cruise the World-Wide Web together as a group.
You can automatically connect with other PowWow, AOL Instant Messenger, or Microsoft Messenger users by entering their e-mail address. A "white pages" of other PowWow users is available at Tribal Voice's home page. You can set your computer up as a conference server and up to fifty people can connect with you. You can also host private chat rooms. You may set yourself up as a temporary conference, or a permanent conference. You may choose to be the conference moderator or you can create a full-time non-moderated conference. PowWow runs in personal communicator and conference modes at the same time. If you are hosting a conference or connected to one, you can still talk with other people running PowWow and use all the personal communicator functions.
If you have a TCP/IP-based network you can set up your own PowWow Server to run PowWow inside of your LAN or WAN.
PowWow also boasts a text-to-speech feature, on-line games, bulletin-board messaging, Web browsing, Web searching, and an e-mail answering machine option.
This newest release lets you have your AOL Instant Messenger buddies, your Microsoft Messenger Service buddies, and all your PowWow buddies on the same buddy list. There's a new built in mini-browser so you'll have quick access to news, sports, stocks and other information right from within PowWow. You can now perform Web searches right from PowWow. You can host private chat rooms. Personal profile pictures can now be any size and in BMP, JPG or GIF. PowWow also supports sound schemes so you can customize your sounds. The text-to-speech engine now support Microsoft's SAPI 4.0 for an even cooler sounding robot voice. There's also a new user interface and fixes to many user-reported problems.
