  17. Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
  18. BEFORE you continue the installation.

  21. 2. Installation Notes 
  22. =================================================================
  23. These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support 
  24. DirectDraw & Direct3D applications.
  25.  
  26. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 
  27. and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous
  28. version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before 
  29. installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control 
  30. Panel by:
  31.     1.  Choosing "Add/Remove Programs"
  32.     2.  Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal"
  33.     3.  Click on the "Add/Remove" button
  34.     4.  Then follow the uninstall process.
  35.  
  36. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers
  37. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  38. Before installing the S3 Inc. Savage 4 Windows 9x display 
  39. drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA".
  40.     1. Open your Control Panel and select Display.  
  41.     2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type 
  42.     button.
  43.     3. Click the Change button.  
  44.     4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the 
  45.     top of the left window and select Standard Display Types.
  46.     5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 
  47.     Click OK.

  50. 3. Installation Instructions

  52. Manual Installation via .inf for Windows 95:
  53. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  54.       Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  55.  
  56.       Start the "Display" applet program. 
  57.  
  58.       Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" button.
  59.  
  60.       Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.
  61.  
  62.       Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
  63.  
  64.       Specify the path to the new driver and press the <ENTER>
  65.       key:

  67.           Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
  68.                      and enter A:\.
  69.  
  70.           Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied
  71.                      the drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network
  72.                      share.  This installation automatically goes to C:\Savage4
  73.                      unless you have manually changed the default extraction.
  74.  
  75.           Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are,
  76.                      choose the "Browse..." button are find them.
  77.  
  78.       The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that
  79.       corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK.

  81.       Windows 95 will copy the display drivers to the proper directories
  82.       on your system.

  84.       Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the
  85.       "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
  86.  
  87.       After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
  88.       applet and select alternate screen resolutions and color depths.

  132. There are no issues to note with this release.

  138. =================================================================
  139. This driver is not optimized for DirectX7. It is optimized for 
  140. DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runson operating 
  141. systems with either DirectX version installed.
