  90. FIXES IN THIS RELEASE

  92. 1.  In some situations, it was not possible to
  93.     Decrypt/Verify a message after browsing your
  94.     hard drive with the Microsoft Outlook
  95.     browser.  This has been corrected.
  96.  
  97. 2.  PGP can now decrypt files that originally 
  98.     did not have a file extension. 
  99.  
  100. 3.  PGPnet now supports Multi-Tech PCMCIA Cards on
  101.     Windows NT.  Previously, this card was only
  102.     supported on Windows 95 and Windows 98.
  103.  
  104. 4.  PGP and CyberCop Scanner can now be installed
  105.     on the same Windows NT computer.
  106.  
  107. 5.  Problems with some 16 bit applications 
  108.     crashing while PGPtray is running may be 
  109.     resolved.
  110.  
  111. 6.  PGP will now permit the selection of the 
  112.     destination directory if the source directory 
  113.     is read-only or full.

  116. NEW FEATURES IN PGP
  117.  
  118. 1.  PGPnet. PGPnet is a landmark product in the
  119.     history of PGP. PGPnet secures all TCP/IP
  120.     communications between the local machine and any 
  121.     other machine running PGPnet. PGPnet has been 
  122.     successfully tested with Cisco routers (requires
  123.     Cisco IOS 12.0(4) or later with IPSec
  124.     TripleDES). 
  125.  
  126. 2.  Self-Decrypting Archives. You may now encrypt
  127.     files or folders into Self-Decrypting Archives
  128.     (SDAs) that can be used by users who do not even
  129.     have PGP. The archives are completely
  130.     independent of any application, compressed and
  131.     protected by PGP's strong cryptography.
  132.  
  133. 3.  Integrated PGP Command Line. This version
  134.     incorporates the popular command line version of
  135.     PGP for Windows platforms. This product provides
  136.     a convenient way to integrate PGP with other 
  137.     Windows applications and automated processes
  138.     on your desktop system. Please note that this 
  139.     is intended for single user/workstation use. For 
  140.     use on servers, customers are required to
  141.     purchase the PGP e-Business Server product.

  145. 4.  Automated Freespace Wiping. PGP's Freespace Wipe
  146.     feature now allows you to use the Windows Task
  147.     Scheduler to schedule periodic secure wiping 
  148.     of the free space on your disk.
  149.  
  150. 5.  Hotkeys. The Use Current Window feature has been
  151.     significantly enhanced by the addition of
  152.     Hotkeys. By using a configured key combination,
  153.     the Encrypt/Decrypt/Sign functions can be
  154.     automatically invoked without using PGPtray.
  155.     This feature is very useful for users using
  156.     messaging applications for which PGP does not
  157.     currently have a plug-in, such as Netscape
  158.     Messenger.
  159.  
  160. 6.  Fingerprint Word List. When verifying a PGP
  161.     public key fingerprint, you can now choose to
  162.     view the fingerprint as a word list instead of
  163.     hexadecimal characters. The word list in the
  164.     fingerprint text box is made up of special
  165.     authentication words that PGP uses and are
  166.     carefully selected to be phonetically distinct
  167.     and easy to understand without phonetic
  168.     ambiguity.
  169.  
  170. 7.  Support for Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express
  171.     5.0. This version of PGP adds support for
  172.     sending and receiving encrypted email in
  173.     Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5.0.
  174.  
  175. 8.  HTTP Proxy Support. If you are behind a 
  176.     firewall with an HTTP proxy server, PGP now 
  177.     supports accessing HTTP keyservers through the 
  178.     proxy.  To use this feature, you must configure 
  179.     the proxy server address in your Internet
  180.     Explorer preferences.
  181.  
  182. 9.  Smart Word Wrapping. The word wrapping in PGP
  183.     now automatically rewraps paragraphs and even
  184.     quoted paragraphs resulting in much cleaner
  185.     signed messages.

  188. * PGP ENHANCEMENTS *
  189.  
  190. 1. Support for Windows 2000 operating systems. This 
  191.    release of PGP introduces support for Microsoft's
  192.    latest releases of Windows. All PGP functionality
  193.    is available in Windows 2000 except PGPnet.
  194.    PGPnet will support Windows 2000 in future
  195.    releases of PGP.
  196.  
  197. 2. Windows 2000 IPSec interoperability. PGPnet 
  198.    running on non-Windows 2000 systems can establish 
  199.    VPN connections with the built-in Windows 2000 
  200.    IPSec client.  (The Windows 2000 system must be 
  201.    running the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack.)
  202.  
  203. 3. Intel Pentium III Random Number Generator (RNG) 
  204.    support. If your computer is equipped with the 
  205.    Intel RNG, PGP will use the random data generated
  206.    by the chip in addition to our own entropy
  207.    collection whenever random data is needed for key
  208.    generation and encryption. The Intel RNG is
  209.    currently only available with select Pentium III
  210.    chipsets, including the Intel 810 chipset.
  211.  
  212. 4. Automatic email plug-in pre-selection. PGP will
  213.    now automatically pre-select email plug-ins to
  214.    install on your system based on what messaging
  215.    applications are installed. Nevertheless, you are
  216.    still able to change the selected plug-ins at
  217.    install time.

  254. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  255.  
  256. To install PGP on a Windows 95, 98, 2000, or NT system,
  257. you must have:
  258.  
  259. - Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0 with Service Pack
  260.   3/4/5
  261. - 32 MB RAM
  262. - 16 MB hard disk space for the client install
  263.  
  264. If you plan to run PGPnet on the system, you must 
  265. also have:
  266.  
  267. - Microsoft TCP/IP
  268. - A compatible LAN/WAN network adapter 
  269.  
  270. Note: PGPnet functionality is not available for 
  271. users of Windows 95a (the original release of
  272. Windows 95) or Windows 2000. PGPnet supports Windows 
  273. 95b (OSR2), Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0.
  274.  
  275. ____________
  276. KNOWN ISSUES
  277.  
  278. *PGP ISSUES*
  279.  
  280. 1.  Mismatching your keyring files can result in 
  281.     data loss. Your public keyring file and private 
  282.     keyring file must be kept in sync.  If, for 
  283.     instance, you select a public keyring file that
  284.     does not contain the public portion of your 
  285.     private key without also changing the private 
  286.     keyring to the corresponding file, you and 
  287.     others will not be able to encrypt to exported 
  288.     versions of your key after that time. In most 
  289.     cases, simply updating your key from a public 
  290.     copy on a keyserver will fix this.  However, it 
  291.     is recommended that the keyring files always be
  292.     kept in sync. A future version is expected 
  293.     to correct this issue.
  294.  
  295. 2.  Some PGP Versions 6.0 and later features are 
  296.     incompatible with previous versions of PGP, so 
  297.     we feature a "compatible" export format that 
  298.     strips incompatible features such as Photo IDs. 
  299.     Selecting "Include 6.X Extensions" in the 
  300.     Export dialog enables these features to be 
  301.     exported. By default, PGP exports in compatible 
  302.     mode. You may change the default in the Advanced 
  303.     Preferences dialog. When sending a key to a 
  304.     PGP Certificate Server Version 2.0 or above, 
  305.     Photo IDs always accompany the key. The default 
  306.     LDAP server in PGP 6.x supports this.
  307.  
  308. 3.  On Windows 95/98, the Free Space Wiper will 
  309.     reset every time another program writes to your 
  310.     disk while the wiping process is in progress. 
  311.     This is similar to defragmentation programs, 
  312.     and is required by the Operating System. For 
  313.     optimal wiping, make sure to close all open 
  314.     applications. On some systems with very low 
  315.     amounts of RAM, it may be advisable to also
  316.     shut down Windows Explorer.
  317.  
  318. 4.  The Windows Explorer provides PGP with 
  319.     information only about the target of a shortcut 
  320.     and not the shortcut itself. If you use the 
  321.     Wipe feature in the Explorer, the shortcut 
  322.     itself will not be wiped. The actual target 
  323.     will be wiped. When using PGPtools, the shortcut 
  324.     will also be wiped.
  325.  
  326. 5.  Hotkeys are for use with applications that 
  327.     support general text editing. Using Hotkeys 
  328.     with some applications may result in 
  329.     unpredictable behavior.  
  330.  
  331. 6.  The PGP Exchange/Outlook plugin does not support 
  332.     Microsoft Word as an email editor.
  333.  
  334. 7.  We strongly recommend that VirusScan users
  335.     upgrade to VirusScan Version 4.0.3 or later to
  336.     take advantage of the newest virus DAT file 
  337.     update features.
  338.  
  339.  
  340. * PGPNET ISSUES *
  341.  
  342. 1.  Do not attempt to manually uninstall PGPnet. 
  343.     It is very important that you use the PGP 
  344.     Uninstaller to remove PGPnet. PGPnet makes 
  345.     extensive modifications to the registry and 
  346.     changes the bindings on network adapters. 
  347.     The PGP Uninstaller can be accessed via the 
  348.     Add/Remove Programs control panel.
  349.  
  350. 2.  [Windows NT only]
  351.     As a precautionary measure, in the unusual 
  352.     event that there is a incompatibility between 
  353.     your network card driver and PGPnet, you can 
  354.     create a "No Networking" hardware profile 
  355.     prior to installing PGPnet on your system. 
  356.     The "No Networking" hardware profile can be 
  357.     used later if an incompatibility occurs.
  358.  
  359.     To create a "No Networking" hardware profile,
  360.     right click on "My Computer," select Properties,
  361.     and then select the Hardware Profiles tab. Use 
  362.     the Copy button to create a copy of the Original 
  363.     Configuration. Get Properties on your copied 
  364.     configuration and click the Network tab.
  365.     Finally, select the "Network-disabled hardware
  366.     profile" checkbox. Click OK to both windows 
  367.     and then you are done. (Due to a Windows bug 
  368.     we recommend that you restart once and 
  369.     double-check that the "No Networking" 
  370.     configuration is working before you
  371.     install PGPnet.)
  372.  
  373. 3.  [Windows 95 only]
  374.     You may experience a loss of networking after
  375.     resuming from standby mode. You must reboot 
  376.     your machine to resume network activity.
  377.  
  378. 4.  PGPnet is not compatible with the Intel 
  379.     EtherExpress 16 driver.   
  380.     
  381. 5.  Installing virtual private network software 
  382.     such as PGPnet on the same machine as a firewall
  383.     or another VPN client is highly likely to cause
  384.     problems. We recommend uninstalling the other
  385.     product prior to installing or choosing not to
  386.     install PGPnet on such a machine.
  387.  
  388. 6.  You cannot use the default MSN dialer to 
  389.     connect to MSN if PGPnet is installed.
  390.     To connect to MSN with PGPnet, use the Microsoft 
  391.     Dial-Up Networking client.
