  6. Welcome to ZipMan 99 DELUXE!
  7.  
  8. ZipMan 99 DELUXE is an extension for Windows(r) 95/98 that makes it much
  9. easier to display, extract and access the contents of "compressed" files,
  10. which are generally known as archives.
  11.  
  12. ZipMan 99 DELUXE is fully integrated in Windows(r) 95/98, giving you direct,
  13. simple and very efficient access to the files stored in archives with the
  14. Windows(r) Explorer and other applications. With ZipMan 99 DELUXE you can
  15. execute and open files stored in archives directly, even in MS-DOS(r)
  16. windows!

  18. IMPORTANT: Please note that ZipMan 99 DELUXE is not compatible with
  19. Windows(r) NT!

  21. ZipMan 99 DELUXE enables you to treat files stored in archives in almost
  22. exactly the same way as the contents of normal Windows(r) folders.

  24. ZipMan 99 DELUXE supports all the following standard archive formats:
  25.  
  26. - ARJ archives with the .arj extension
  27. - LHA archives with the .lzh extension
  28. - RAR archives with the .rar extension
  29. - TAR archives with the .tar extension
  30. - TGZ archives with the .tgz extension
  31. - ZIP archives with the .zip extension
  32.  
  33. - In addition to this you can use ZipMan 99 DELUXE to create
  34. self-extracting ARJ, LHA, RAR and ZIP format archives.
  35.  
  36. - You can also split ZIP archives into so-called multi-volume or "spanned"
  37. archives for storage on multiple floppy disks, and you can recombine these
  38. multi-volume archives to restore the original archive.

  40. Notes: Password-protected archives and nested archives (archives stored
  41. within other archives) are not supported. When ZipMan 99 DELUXE generates or
  42. modifies RAR archives they are stored in the RAR 1.55 non-solid format.
  43. Solid RAR archives can only be read, they cannot be modified or written with
  44. ZipMan 99 DELUXE.

  51. Installing the Software
  52. -----------------------

  54. Important! You must complete the entire installation procedure described
  55. below before you can use ZipMan 99 DELUXE -- you can't just copy the program
  56. files into a folder and run it directly. The files that enable ZipMan 99
  57. DELUXE to access archives directly as though they were directories have to
  58. be copied to specific locations and configured, and this work is performed
  59. by the installation program.

  61. To install ZipMan 99 DELUXE on your computer under Windows(r) 95/98, first
  62. locate the folder containing the ZipMan distribution files and then execute
  63. the file SETUP.EXE. The installation program will then interactively guide
  64. you through the individual installation steps. Please proceed as follows:

  67. Installing from a floppy disk or CD-ROM
  68.  
  69. Insert the floppy disk or CD containing the ZipMan 99 DELUXE distribution
  70. files in the appropriate drive and then select Run in the Windows(r) 95/98
  71. Start menu. Then type the path of the file SETUP.EXE in the Run dialog box.
  72. For example, if the ZipMan 99 DELUXE distribution files are on a CD in drive
  73. D: you would enter:

  77. Then and press Enter or click on OK to start the installation program.
  78. (Note: If the ZipMan 99 DELUXE files are in a different directory or a
  79. subdirectory on the CD-ROM you must enter the entire path.)

  82. Rebooting Windows(r) 95/98 to complete the installation
  83.  
  84. When the installation procedure is complete Windows(r) 95/98 must be shut
  85. down and rebooted to initialize and activate the system extensions installed
  86. by ZipMan 99 DELUXE. When the system comes up again you will be able to
  87. access the archive files supported by ZipMan 99 DELUXE. If you look at the
  88. right hand end of taskbar at the bottom of the screen you will now see the
  89. ZipMan icon. This icon indicates the current status of ZipMan 99 DELUXE and
  90. enables you to configure its settings at any time, including
  91. enabling/disabling access to the contents of archives for individual
  92. application programs and folders.
