  17. Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
  18. BEFORE you continue the installation.

  21. 2. Installation Notes 
  22. =================================================================
  23. These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support 
  24. DirectDraw & Direct3D applications.
  25.  
  26. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 
  27. and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous
  28. version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before 
  29. installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control 
  30. Panel by:
  31.     1.  Choosing "Add/Remove Programs"
  32.     2.  Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal"
  33.     3.  Click on the "Add/Remove" button
  34.     4.  Then follow the uninstall process.
  35.  
  36. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers
  37. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  38. Before installing the Diamond ViperII Z200 Windows 9x display 
  39. drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA".
  40.     1. Open your Control Panel and select Display.  
  41.     2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type 
  42.     button.
  43.     3. Click the Change button.  
  44.     4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the 
  45.     top of the left window and select Standard Display Types.
  46.     5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 
  47.     Click OK.

  50. 3. Installation Instructions
  51. =================================================================
  52. Installation from CD:
  53. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  54. Place the CDROM that you received with Diamond ViperII Z200 in  
  55. your CDROM drive X: (X: being your CDROM drive letter).
  56. If your CDROM Autostart feature is turned off, you will need to 
  57. manually go to your RUN line (Click on start/run located on your
  58. start bar) and browse your CD to run install.exe from 
  59. the install directory, which will guide you through the rest 
  60. of the installation.

  63. Manual Installation via .inf:
  64. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  65. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  66.  
  67. Start the "Display" applet program. 
  68.  
  69. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" 
  70. button. Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.
  71.  
  72. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
  73.  
  74. Specify the path to the new drivers' .inf file and press the 
  75.       <ENTER> key:
  76.       Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
  77.                  and enter A:\.
  78.       Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you 
  79.                  copied the drivers, either on your local hard 
  80.                  drive or on a network shared drive.
  81.       Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers 
  82.                  are, choose the "Browse..." button and find them.
  83.  
  84. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter 
  85. that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and 
  86. click OK.
  87.  
  88. Windows will copy the display drivers to the proper 
  89. directories on your system.
  90.  
  91. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from 
  92. the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
  93.  
  94. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
  95. applet and select alternate screen resolutions, color depths and 
  96. related features.

  99. 4. Known Issues
  100. =================================================================
  101. Known driver issues will be addressed in future updates and 
  102. made available on the Diamond website.
  103.  
  104. Some Multi-Adapter issues are under investigation.
  105.  
  106. If problems occur with high resolution 32bpp modes, lower the 
  107. refresh, resolution or color depth.
  108.  
  109. Support for WinBench2000 is not implemented in this driver 
  110. version.
  111.

  113. 5. Known Limitations 
  114. =================================================================
  115. This driver is not optimized for DirectX7. It is optimized for 
  116. DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runs, with limitations 
  117. noted, on operating systems with either DirectX version installed
  118.  
  119. By design if both a CRT and a TV are attached and powered on, 
  120. both will be detected and Windows will boot to simultaneous 
  121. TV & CRT display. The TV must be powered off for Windows to 
  122. boot to CRT only.
  123.  
  124. PAL-M, PAL-N and SECAM are not supported.
  125.  
  126. Only one overlay surface is available in hardware. If a second 
  127. overlay stream is attempted, the video stream will play 
  128. through GDI.
  129.  
  130. The version of Quake III included with this CD is fully functional 
  131. only with Windows 98. Do not play on a Windows 95 system. The system 
  132. will lock at the beginning of gameplay.
  133.  
  134. ICT will not be fully functional with COMCTRL32.DLL version 4.70 and
  135. earlier.  This may impact Windows 95 platforms.  The problems 
  136. experienced will included :
  137.  
  138.   1) The InControl Desktop Properties will not execute.
  139.   2) The InControl Desktop Manager will not execute.
  140.   3) The Diamond 3D page will not execute.
  141.  
  142. To resolve this issue you can do one of the following:
  143.  
  144.   1)  Install a later version of COMCTRL32.DLL from the Microsoft Web
  145.       Site.  It is part of a self-extracting executable (50comupd.exe)
  146.       which can be downloaded from Microsoft's webpage through the link at
  147.       http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q186/1/76.ASP 
  148.       Download the latest version, currently select the option  
  149.       "Download 50comupd.exe (x86)" 0.49 MB.
  150.   2) Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.

  153. Zoran software may not install on Windows 95 and OSR2 systems. 
  154. Zoran and S3/Diamond are aware of this issue.
  155.  
  156. InControl Tools (ICT)99:
  157. InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take  
  158. effect when running under Windows 98.
  159. Diamond ICT99 "Internet Sites" popup requires IE3.0 or above or 
  160. Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above.
  161.  
  162. After uninstalling the Update Wizard with Windows 950a or 950b, 
  163. reboot your machine to remove Start Menu entries.
