  3. The date strip consists of a number of lines of text. 
  4.  
  5. Line 1:    The Month and the Year of the strip.
  6.     The information may be duplicated in the window
  7.     manager title line. In this case the line may be omitted
  8.     by setting the resource `useWmTitle' to False.
  9.  
  10. Line 2:    The main control buttons for the strip actioned by the
  11.     left mouse button.
  12.     <    Generates last month's strip in a separate window
  13.     Quit    Close this script
  14.     >    Generates next month's strip in a separate window
  15.  
  16. Line 3: The Help button.
  17.     Help can be suppressed by setting the resource `giveHelp' to False.
  18.  
  19. Then -  A line for each day in the month.
  20.  
  21.     Each line is two areas:
  22.  
  23.     The left hand side shows the day in the month and the name of
  24.     the day of the week. `Today' may be highlighted specially in
  25.     this region.

  27.     The right hand side is an active button. When pressed it starts
  28.     up an editor for the day. This will create a file for the day
  29.     in the user's Calendar directory. The label on the button will
  30.     be the first few characters of the file, if there are any.

  32.     You can paste selected characters into a day. Sweep out the
  33.     characters that you want to load and click with the middle
  34.     mouse button in the day of your choice. This is just like
  35.     normal pasting of text. You will get a complaint if the day is
  36.     already being edited.

  42. This editing window will create or delete a day file for the day shown
  43. in the title. The file is stored in a directory specified by the
  44. resource `directory', this is usually `Calendar' in your home
  45. directory.

  47. Calendar will usually contain directories, one for each year, and the
  48. day file will be stored in one of these directories. However, this
  49. makes xcal incompatible with xcalendar - so if the resource
  50. xcalendarCompat is True then the use of subdirectories is suppressed.

  52. The large area in the edit window is a normal text input area. Text is
  53. simply be typed into it, the text is saved by hitting the save button
  54. which is set to sensitive when the text is changed.  Saving an empty
  55. buffer will delete the file.  The Quit button will exit. Some more
  56. questions will be asked if leaving will result in losing information.

  62. The memo window is intended to do three things. First, it allows a
  63. single button click to display today's actions from your diary.
  64. Second, it provides a way of displaying regular weekly events.  Third,
  65. it provides an editable window whose contents can be saved in a file.
  66. The idea is that this file will contain reminders and other notes.  The
  67. file is usually called `memo' and is stored in a directory specified by
  68. the resource `directory', usually `Calendar' in your home directory.

  70. The window is split into three areas. The top section shows the current
  71. diary entry and cannot be altered by editing. Hit the edit button to
  72. start a standard day editor window on today's date. The middle section
  73. shows the weekly entry. Again the edit button allows you to edit these
  74. The bottom section contains the memo file text area. Text is simply
  75. typed into it and is stored saved by hitting the save button. This
  76. will go black when the text is changed.
