  1.                          F-PROT introduction
  2.  
  3. The F-PROT anti-virus package consists of the following files:
  4.  
  5.         F-PROT.EXE    The main program (DOS version).
  6.         SIGN.DEF      DOS/Windows virus search/disinfection data.
  7.         SIGN2.DEF     Trojan and Java/Script/BAT virus search data.
  8.         MACRO.DEF     Word/Excel virus search/disinfection data.
  9.         ENGLISH.TX0   An English message file.
  10.         *.TXT         Some documentation files, including this one.
  11.         *.ASC         PGP signature files.
  12.  
  13. In addition the package contains the following two files:
  14.  
  15.         SETUPFM.EXE   A self-installing version of the F-MACROW Word/Excel
  16.                       virus scanner for Windows users.  When it is installed
  17.                       it will create documentation files, describing itsd use.
  18.  
  19.         F-STOPW.ZIP   This archive contains a self-installing version of the
  20.                       F-STOPW VXD for Windows '95 (and Windows '98) users
  21.                       This is a "resident" scanner which will check files
  22.                       before they are accessed or executed.

  24.                       To install this program you need to unpack this
  25.                       archive in the F-PROT directory and run the SETUPFS
  26.                       program.
  27.  
  28. If you are running any version of Windows, you can use both the F-PROT and
  29. F-MACROW programs.  Please note that for the purpose of detecting and
  30. removing Word/Excel viruses, the F-PROT and F-MACROW programs are equally
  31. good - the difference is that F-PROT is a DOS application, which also
  32. detects other viruses, while F-MACROW is a Windows application that *only*
  33. detects Word and Excel viruses.

  35. If you are running Windows '95 (or Windows '98), you can also use the
  36. F-STOPW program.  Unlike F-PROT, this program is continually active,
  37. scanning files before they are executed.

  39. If you are running DOS, OS/2 or any other non-Windows operating system,
  40. you can only use the F-PROT program (provided the OS allows you to run
  41. DOS applications, that is).

  43.                         Running F-PROT
  44.  
  45. If the F-PROT program is run in interactive mode, you get a screen which 
  46. shows the available functions.  You can use the arrow keys to move around
  47. the screen, and press <ENTER> when you wnat to select an action.

  54. When [Scan] is selected, you get a menu where you can specify where to
  55. search for viruses, and what to do when a virus is found.  See the file
  56. SCAN.TXT for further information.

  58. When [Options] is selected, you get a menu where you can enable or disable
  59. various options.  To change an option, move the red line over it, using
  60. the arrow keys and press <ENTER>.

  62. When [Information] is selected you get a list of several subjects you can
  63. select to get more detailed information about the program.

  65. Finally, selecting [Quit] will terminate the program.
