We have made a number of improvements to F-PROT since the release of the
previous version, including:
Detection of malicious or destructive Java code (Java Trojans).
Scanning of attachments in Rich Text Format (.RTF) files.
Scanning of OLE1 embedding (embedded files in WordPad and Word 6).
Scanning of Word Perfect 2000 (.WPD) files.
Scanning of Lotus Worksheet (.WKS) files.
Scanning of LX (OS/2) files and detection of all known OS/2 viruses.
Disinfection in Office 2000 signed documents.
We have improved the PE heuristics (heuristics for 32-bit Windows
programs. The accuracy should now be better with higher detection and
fewer false positives.
We have also made large change to the program, involving the addition of
the file SIGN2.DEF. Previously, some types of viruses (.BAT infectors for
example) as well as Trojans were detected through code, and adding
detection of a new virus of those types meant that a program update was
necessary. The information necessary to detect those viruses is now stored
in SIGN2.DEF, which makes updating much easier.
Finally, we have corrected a few problems related to incorrect disinfection
of boot sector viruses.
One of the problems was incorrect disinfection of the Urkel and
Frankenstein viruses.
The other problem involved the scenario where a hard disk is infected by
a boot sector virus, and then it gets repartitioned. If it then
disinfected, F-PROT would usually restore the original MBR, as it
existed before the disk was repartitioned, forcing the user to run NDD
or some other data recovery tool to restore the new partitions. This
problem will no longer occur.

Version 3.06a includes a number of small improvements:
Improved macro virus detection - there were previously a few macro
viruses that were detected unreliably or not at all. We have now added
proper detection and identification of those.
We have added detection of some virus-construction tools.
We have also fixed a few minor problems, false alarms, and added
detection of a number of new viruses.
