MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR MICROSOFT EXCEL VIEWER 97
---------------------------------------------------------
To use Microsoft Excel Viewer 97, you need:
* Personal computer with a 486 or higher processor
* Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Windows NT
Workstation operating system 3.51 with Service Pack 5 or later
* 4 MB of memory for use on Windows 95 (8 MB recommended); 12 MB
of memory for use on Windows NT Workstation
* 7 MB of hard disk space required (for installation only, 9 MB
of hard disk space required)
* VGA or higher-resolution video adapter
* Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
INSTALLING MICROSOFT EXCEL VIEWER 97
------------------------------------
1. Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 installation is designed to take
place from within Microsoft Windows. If Windows is not
running, please start it before continuing. Before you install
Microsoft Excel Viewer, quit all programs, including any
utilities or virus protection programs.
2. If an earlier version of Microsoft Excel Viewer is installed
on your computer, you should first uninstall that version
before you install Microsoft Excel Viewer 97.
3. Run the Setup.exe program, which is located in the same folder
as this Readme.txt file.
4. When Setup prompts you for a folder in which to install
Microsoft Excel Viewer, specify a location, or accept the
suggested default location.
To run Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 under Windows 95 or Windows NT
4.0, click Start, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft
Excel Viewer.
To run Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 under Windows NT 3.51, double-
click the Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 icon, located in the Programs
group.
GETTING HELP ON USING MICROSOFT EXCEL VIEWER 97

Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 includes complete online Help. To
display Help, click Contents on the Help menu. Click the Contents
tab to scroll through a table of contents, or click the Find tab
to use full-text search and look for specific words or phrases.
TROUBLESHOOTING: CANNOT DISPLAY THE FIND TAB IN VIEWER HELP
-----------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS: When you click Contents on the Help menu, one of the
following problems may occur:
- The following error message may appear: "Unable to display the
Find tab (177)." After you click OK, Help opens with the
Contents tab active.
-or-
- Help opens with the Contents tab active. If you click the Find
tab, Help beeps but does not switch to the Find tab, and you
then cannot reactivate the Help window or click the Contents
tab.
CAUSE: This problem may occur after you change the Windows
country setting on the Regional Settings tab of the Regional
Settings Properties window. For example, if you change from
English (United States) to French (Swiss), the above problems
occur the next time you open Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 Help.
Changing back to the English (United States) country setting does
not resolve the problem.
WORKAROUND:
1. If Viewer Help does not respond, use the following steps to
reactivate the Contents tab in Viewer Help:
a. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
b. In the Close Program dialog box, click Windows Help.
c. Click End Task.
2. Close Viewer Help.
3. In Windows Explorer, open the Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 folder
(by default, this is C:\Program Files\Xlview).
4. Delete the Xlview.gid and Xlview.fts files (do not delete
Xlview.hlp or Xlview.cnt).
STATUS: Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with
Microsoft Excel Viewer 97.
